'Cause it looks like that may be the Month of Silent Muse. Though we don't have exact dates yet, we've pretty much got two confirmed gigs for March. One right here in Charlottesville with In Tenebris at the Outback Lodge. The other at
_sacrosanct_, currently our "Home Away From Home," playing with Virginia's newest Goth Rock giants, Dead New Year. We've got a bit of new material to spring forth on you folks, so spread the word now because these both promise to be fantastic shows.
And don't forget to pledge to Subculture Shock, 91.9 for the upcoming fundraiser in March, as among other things you can get, you recieve a complimentary CD featuring a bunch of great bands, including a previously unreleased Silent Muse track.
Now, speaking of new stuff, I've once again cranked out a new song (with several more in the mix. . . Gosh, is it good to have inspiration again!) and thus you all get first crack at the lyrics. What I like about this is how incredibly different it is from the rest of our stuff, both musically and lyrically. I tried to invoke a bit of a new style in my writing here, and I think I pulled it off rather well. Of course, that's all up to the listener (or in this case, the reader) to decide, eh?
In the Arms of the Shore
Climbing up from the depths of a best-forgotten valley
they talk about in myth and only truly feel in mind
The gravel beneath my feet growing softer with each step
while what's left behind disintegrates in fog
A hand reaches out with a gesture of beckoning
touching parts of me I never even knew were there
Blackened waves crash gently about my neck and face
while two pools of light strip the doubt from my skin
And anything I wish I was
All I could be and more
is everything I am
in the arms of the shore
Trying to fit this place into terms I could express
but logic has no hold when all care is thus abandoned
I stand as naked as my inaugural breath
with only fear of being undeserving
"Your confidence is so utterly inspiring"
the only response arriving on a harmless laugh
growing so contagious we both lay soon afflicted
and neither one too desperate for a cure
For anything I wish was
All I could be and more
is everything I am
in the arms of the shore
(In the arms of the shore) I was not the greatest man
(In the arms of the shore) barely a man at all
(In the arms of the shore) Till the tide washed out all pity
slowing time down to a crawl
(In the arms of the shore) The sand sweeps away deception
(In the arms of the shore) The wind is cool, the water warm
(In the arms of the shore) I've felt the touch
I've heard the words
This is the calm without the storm
Say it again
Say it again
I suppose I have to bring this matter to a close
but I haven't put much stock in looking for an ending
And all I never said and the things I haven't done
aren't regrets but the best still left to come
And anything I wish I was
All I could be and more
is everything I am
in the arms of the shore
I feel like I've been here forever
yet never once darkened this door
Released from all thoughts of leaving
the arms of the shore
