My mom, grandma and I went downtown to see the Keeper of the Plains Indian statue Friday night. It was something we'd been planning to do for months, if not years, and we were going to go Monday evening but rain pushed it back to last night. What's so special about the statue you ask, especially one that has been there for 35 years? Well there is a lot of Osage Indian blood on my mom's side of the family, especially with my grandmother and her ancestors, but really the main attraction wasn't so much the statue but the other things added around it over the past few years, such as the pedestrian bridge that allows visitors to get up close to it, the firepots that burn for 15 minutes each evening, and the "mini-museum" of Indian artifacts, if you will. We had a lot of fun and the weather was perfect. :) My maternal great-grandmother passed away in 2003, about 3-4 years before the improvements were completed...too bad she didn't live long enough to see it. But I'm glad my grandmother -- who turns 79 on Wednesday -- did. :)
