Couldn't resist this prompt, just WAY too tempting. Another wonderful prompt from lockets_reveal. This almost vaguely resembles a drabble *is proud* :P
His skin stung where she had struck him. He could feel the blood rushing to the point of contact. He simply could not believe it: his sweet, even-tempered Guinevere had just slapped him- and not gently either.
‘Arthur, you haven’t been listening to a word I’ve been saying have you?’ she said scowling up at him, failing to show even the slightest bit of remorse for violently assaulting the Prince.
‘I have’ Arthur pouted, rubbing his injured- and now possible crippled- arm.
‘Then what was I saying?’ she demanded fiercely, her hands set resolutely on her hips.
His eyes widened, ‘you were saying something about, you know, that thing that we talked about that time erm,’ he scratched his head, ‘that was um really important because...’ he trailed off at the sight of Gwen’s unimpressed expression, ‘I can’t remember, I must be in shock, you know Gaius says after a serious injury you can sometimes-’
‘Oh, so the fact that you were too busy staring down the front of my dress to take in anything I was saying had nothing to do with it?’
He was offended, how dare she accuse him of such a thing, ‘I was not staring’ he blustered, outraged.
‘Then what, Arthur Pendragon, were you doing?’
‘I was admiring...’ She coughed, hiding her smile with her sleeve, ‘the embroidery on your new bodice, thank you very much Guinevere’ he finished, his face flushed.
‘Really?’ she replied, raising a sceptical eyebrow.
‘Very fine needlework’ he said nodding very seriously.
‘I still don’t believe you’
‘I was not staring’ he stated once more, ‘but even if I was- and I’m not saying I was- it would hardly be my fault’
‘And what’s that supposed to mean?’ she asked, her arms tightly folded across her chest.
‘That if you don’t like the attention maybe you shouldn’t wear things that are so-’ he saw Gwen’s eyes widen and her forehead begin to crease and swiftly changed direction ‘-flattering?’ he offered, a little tentatively.
‘So’ Gwen said, taking a step towards him, she looked calm at least, ‘you would prefer it if I went back to wearing my red dress?’
‘Er what that sack thing?’
‘I made that’ she said in mock indignation.
‘You really shouldn’t have’ he said with a wicked grin, darting out of her reach as she attempted to take another swipe at him.
