Chapter One. Chapter Two. Chapter Three. Chapter Four. Chapter Five. Chapter Six. Chapter Seven. Chapter Eight. Chapter Nine. Chapter Ten:
Mikey couldn't believe how nervous he was. Like, really. He couldn't remember being this nervous since the night that Frank was made,(Five years ago now). He hadn't been this nervous at their wedding. All he'd had to do then was stand at the side of the pulpit and look happy and best-mannish,(which was not hard because all those things happened to be true), and perhaps herd a few drunk relatives onto the couch at the reception. And anyway, Gerard had been nervous enough for both of them,( if he asked Mikey ONE MORE TIME if he remembered the rings, Mikey was going to deck him and then he'd have to get married with a black eye), and Frank had kind of fallen into a thing where he stared at the wall, smiling, and telling everybody that he might throw up, so that Mikey had to actually help him stand up when it was time.
He hadn't been this nervous when Gerard had announced that he and Frank had found a nice house,(white picket fence at all), in Jersey,(there was no getting away from that place), and that they were going to move out of the appartment, and everyone was crying and hugging and remoniscing, and Mikey had to pluck up the courage to ask Ray to move in with him. All he could remember was being so happy when Ray said yes that it blocked out the minor nervousness of the moment before he asked.
And he had been nervous, sure, when Gerard and Frank adopted a beautiful baby girl by the name of Roxanne with mesmerizing brown eyes, and Mikey had held her for the first time. But that nervousness all disappeared when Roxanne looked at him for the first time, grabbed his pinky, and shook hands. And then gave him a big, toothless grin. Mikey had cried, but he hadn't been all that nervous.
Gerard sidled up to him, holding Roxanne on his hip. She was two now, and teething, but she looked adorable in her pink dress with matching shoes and hat. Frank did all her shopping for her, and made sure everything matched, which is why, Ray often joked, it was good to have a gay father.
Ray. Mikey gulped.
"You okay, man?" Gerard asked with a worried but knowing smile.
"I think I'm going to throw up." Mikey wispered. He nervously adjusted his bowtie.
"No you're not, dude." Gerard said, and put his arm around his younger brother's shoulders. "You'll be fine. And in a couple of minutes, you'll be the happiest man on this earth. You're okay."
As if in agreement, Roxanne reached out and tugged on Mikey's ear, giving him her best look-I-have-only-three-teeth smile. Mikey smiled back, for a second. God, he loved her. Ray had talked about them adopting too, once they were married, and possible names. God, how he wanted that.
"Mikey? Mikey, breathe. You've stopped breathing dude."
Mikey sucked in air, which he didn't realize he needed, and then Alicia knocked on the door.
"It's time, Mikey." She said, and Mikey jumped. Even though he already knew she was there. Jeez, He thought, as he started walking towards the big church doors.
He felt like he was floating. Okay Mikes,, He told himself. This is it. You're walking towards you future. God.
He pushed open the doors, and someone was playing music. If Mikey had looked to his left, he would have seen Frank playing "I Miss You" by Incubus, on his guitar. He didn't look though, because he only had eyes for Ray.
To see you when I wake up
Is a gift I didn't think could be real
To know that you feel the same as I do
Is a three-fold utopian dream
You do something to me that I can't explain
So would I be out of line if I said
I miss you?
Ray was smiling at him, and suddenly, Mikey had to fight off tears. Which was clearly ridiculous. Only girls and really, really flamboyant gay men cried like that at their own weddings. And Mikey was neither. Obviously.
He started walking foreward. He didn't know it, but he had a big, sloppy grin on his face.
I see your picture
I smell your skin on the empty pillow next to mine
You have only been gone ten days
But already I'm wasting away
I know I'll see you again
Whether far or soon
But I need you to know that I care
And I miss you
Grandma Peg was standing next to the priest,(a friend of the family that was going to marry them despite what the achdiasis thought of it), and after they said their "I do's" ,(it was Ray's turn to try desperately not to cry by this time), she stepped foreward.
"Well!" she said, and laughed. "Here you are! I believe that I told you to hold on to him five years ago, Ray."
Mikey blinked. He had never heard this before.
"I'm glad to see that somebody's taking my advice! Now Mikey, I'm going to tell you the same thing. If you love him--"
"I do," said Mikey reflexively, and then blushed. He thought he heard Gerard chuckling in the background, and Ray smiled at him.
"--then hold on to him! If you fight, don't let pride stand in your way. Make little surprises for each other. And don't forget what the bedroom is for! I've learned the name of that stuff that old men think they need--VIAGRA--"
Mikey blushed again. I mean, who mentions viagra at a wedding? Really. Then Mikey grinned, realizing he wouldn't have it any other way.
"--Well, you don't need it. You have each other. And now I think it's time I stopped embarrassing you on your wedding day and gave you my blessing."
She lit two white candles and muttered words over them that Mikey couldn't quite make out. Handing one to each groom, she instruced them what to do, and they moved foreward. Together, they lit a red candle, bigger than both white candles, with the combined flames and kissed over it. Mikey felt his whole body tingle, and the air shivered around them for a second. Mikey paid no attention to this, though, because Ray was kissing him. He paid no attention to the applause either. It simply didn't matter, because Ray was there.
And they were married.
Frank catcalled them as they walked back down the isle, and Mikey was giddy and so he giggled like a school girl. And his mother was kissing him on the cheek and crying, and kissing Ray too, and Gerard had tears running down his face, and he was laughing at the same time. Family members Mikey didn't even recognize were congratulating him,(maybe that was Ray's side of the family? God, they had different sides of one family now. Mikey started crying at the thought, and diddn't even notice.)
And then there was the limo. And Ray was laughing and kissing him at the same time. And then there was Gerard's and Frankie's house, overflowing with people, and Mikey was making speeches, and listening to Gerard ramble on about "his baby brother getting married" and how "they used to dare each other to eat worms" and then Frank was pulling Gerard back into his seat and everyone was laughing. And then there was cake, and Mikey was feeding it to Ray and getting it in his hair, and Mikey was eating the cake offered to him by Ray and getting it on his glasses. And just when Mikey couldn't laugh anymore, Frank snuck to the stereo and put on Sir Mix Alot's "Baby Got Back", and started dancing with Roxanne, and Mikey's started to have trouble breathing, he was laughing so hard.
Then people started leaving, even his and Ray's parents, and Frank and Gee were putting Roxanne to bed in her crib, and finally, it was just Ray and Mikey on the couch.
Mikey yawned, and took off his bow tie. "God." he said.
Ray chuckled."Yeah. This has been--"
"The best day ever." They finished together, and laughed.
"I love Ray Toro," Mikey told the table lamp beside the couch.
"I love Mikey Way," Ray told it. "But shhh, cause it's a secret."
Mikey smiled. "No, it's not, table lamp. He's lying to you. But that's okay, his hair makes up for it. Very good for gripping. You know, when you need to."
Ray smirked. "Which reminds me. Don't we have a wedding night to get to?"
Mikey laughed. "Why, yes, we do!"
Later, when Gerard and Frank came downstairs to tidy up and turn off the lights, they found that Ray and Mikey were long gone. They had, however, left a note on the fridge that said simply "THANKS. LOVE YOU!!" in big, block letters with hearts and smiley faces all over it.
Frank laughed. "Queers."
Gerard wraped his arms around him from behind. "I love you, Frankie."
"I love you more, Gerard. Did you ever think everything would turn out like this when you first moved into my old appartment 5 years ago?"
Gerard laughed. "Of course! I planned all this. Why do you think I never completely unpacked my comics?"
Frank laughed and took him to bed.
