Last night I saw Les Choristes at the Nick. It was incredibly moving. Somewhat of a French take on Mr. Hollands Opus, though the musician teacher dies before his students realize the positive influence he made on their lives. Basically the movie alternates between present day as a famous composer hears a knock on his door one rainy night. A former classmate from a boys correctional school for orphans of the world war who either have discipline problems or whose parents cannot afford to rear children shows him a class photo and a journal Clement Mathieu (the Mr. Holland) kept during his years at Fond de L'Etang. Then, flashbacks ensue. Cela m'a touche a coeur. Mademoiselle Meyers was there with her ... man friend. So was Mark Porth. Anyway, I recommend the film, which closes tonight with two final showings at 7:00 and 9:00.
