So cold outside last night that there was frost forming on the Inside of my windshield and I tasted winter, crisp and unabashed, in every breath I took. Lake Washington is far too deep and ruffled ever to freeze, but I saw Mt Rainier all dressed in white in the afternoon, the Cascades wearing a scarf of swirling cloud to the west, both across a sky so clear it seemed just near enough to touch. The stars were blistering at night, city light could not touch them, though all the twinkling of bridges and boathouses was lovely on its own. This year is seeking graceful exit wrapped in diamonds and dark. I do not begrudge her. She rode me hard, right to the end--I am observing, not complaining. Tonight I only wish for energy enough to dance with lights and flames as I please, and afterward a safe room to sit in and drink hot tea and drift to sleep. By day we journey south with all the Tinney clan in caravan. Let the new year come. Let music mend, as always. My first show of 2011, and my only January concert, is at MewCon in PDX with Tricky Pixie tomorrow evening. Celebration is the word. Safe travels and safe gatherings and well-advised resolutions to you all. Happy Everything.
