Last night's show: Rockin' the Lincoln Dance Studio

Jul 08, 2009 11:48

I had every right to believe that performing in a belly dance studio for fans, friends, and dancers was gonna be fun as hell.  It was.

Setlist:

Taglio! (yay singing along!)

Kashkash (yay more singing along!)

Manticore's Lullabye (lots of closed eyes and happy faces.  Good strong performance on this song.  I don't always think I do it the proper justice vocally, but that's what I get for writing things that aren't necessarily easy to sing.)

Snake Star Song (with backline and sexy dancing from kittenpants  and scarletandjade  and the ladies.  I need to practice the guitar part on this so that I don't have to look down at the fretboard so much as I'm sliding all over the place.  Otherwise, awesome.  I can't help but smile and sing when dancing happens.  Especially dancing like this.)

Crystal Cave (yet more sexy dancing.  I got deep into this song and there are parts of it this afternoon that I don't remember singing.)

The Drowning (always fun.  They sang, so bravely, and kittenpants  I think it was kicked in a harmony from the back!)

Tough Titty Cupcakes  (alexandraerin says "Betsy Tinney's seminal neo-blues raccoon standard... possibly the greatest neo-blues raccoon standard of all time, and certainly the one with the best name... "Tough Titty Cupcakes," which must be seen, heard, felt, and experienced to be believed."  Tough Titty WILL debut as part of the Mythcreants album this summer.)

The Truth About Ninjas (by request from at least three people)

Carousel (by request from Aggie - I really did this one up right last night, I think.  Again, not an easy song to sing, as I am constantly reminded.  I have to practice this one often or forget it.)

Ravens in the Library (with lots and lots of banter and gratitude about the anthology, which we are hawking like mad.  The cool part?  Everyone there already had it and had brought it to be signed.  LOVE! Great singing along!)

Were-owl (again, well received, this time with a generous plug for emilycarding  and her work/website.  khryseos says this is one of his new favorites, that it really speaks to him.  I am pleased.)

Girl with the Lion's Tail (Lucia was with us last night and she allowed me to sing her well.  Couple of guitar flubs, but not in the usual aggravating spot, and at least I know what I need to practice this week.)

We Are Shangri-La (the built-in encore.  The ladies were on their feet again, and I am so grateful.  One of the best vocal performances of this song yet, particularly at the endgasm section.  Shimmy!!)

It was a night of deep beauty, and I am grateful to all the ladies of Dancers Oasis Studio for letting me share their space.  If you're in or near Lincoln, you should drop by and take a class.  The space is gorgeous, the floor is perfect, and there's a boutique in the back.  As soon as I find out whether we got any decent photos, I'll post to flickr.  Any of you who were there, feel free to do the same.

Special thanks to scarletandjade and her darlin' Joe for taking care of me, setting it all up with omnisti , getting me food and tasty evil soda, generally spreadin' the love on thick and wonderful, and for chipotle caramel brownie sauce.

I'll be in Colorado starting this evening.  We are taking our time getting out of Nebraska this afternoon, as we've had a couple of early mornings this week that we need to recover from.  Also we have kittenpants and family to visit and to thank for keeping us overnight.
I have three shows this weekend - two in Colorado Springs and one in Denver.  Please come, please spread the word, and please bring friends.

In other news that we already knew, United breaks guitars.
