Part 1 of the "Sato Ryuji and Naka Bambi will Create a New "RomiJuri" - The "Rock Opera 'R&J'" can be found:
HERE Well then, please tell me your impressions of each other.
Naka: He has no weaknesses! Even when I'm looking at his photos, I don't feel any [of his] weaknesses at all. I first met him when we did the shoot for the [production] visuals, and it was like, "He doesn't feel human! Where is the feeling that he's human!?" (LOL). But, when I talk to him like this, relatively speaking......
Sato: Relatively speaking, I do have it, right?
Naka: I discovered quite a few parts of him that were interesting, and thought, "Ah! He's human!" Initially, I had the image that he was perfect and had no weaknesses. Now, he feels like a small animal (LOL).
Sato: I'm the type who is shy, but (Naka-san) is easy to talk to.
Naka: Eh? You're shy?
Sato: It's [my shyness] is terrible. But, if I find someone easy to talk to from the first time that we meet, I'd think that there is the feeling that this is likely to be a good production.
Naka: That makes me happy!
Do you have anything that you would like to ask each other?
Sato: When did you begin dancing?
Naka: From when I was 5 years old!
Sato: That's early! What prompted you [to take up dancing]?
Naka: Originally, my mother was also a dancer in musicals. To be able to achieve her dreams, she came to Tokyo from Kumamoto, but she became pregnant with my older sister, and she quit before achieving her dreams. Then, when my sister was 7 years old and I was 5 years old, we were told by our mother, "Go and dance!", and that was the prompt. The start [of my dancing] was against my will (LOL).
Sato: Is that so. .....That's all!
Naka: Just like that, that's the end!? (LOL)
Sato: Speaking of which, when I was 5 years old, I too started taking up karate. That's why it got me thinking, ah, it was around the same time.
Naka: The one where you say, "Tei!"? (thrusting her fist out in front of her)
Sato: The one where you say, "Tei!" (LOL). I was the strongest in Tohoku [1]. Only up to middle school though.
Naka: Incredible!
Since the opportunity has presented itself, you could learn karate?
Naka: I would like to know about things like the kata [2]!
Sato: Well then, please teach me [how to] dance! This time, there will definitely be something like a duet [between us], right? Ah, really..... (bursts out laughing)
Naka: Please don't say something like that-! (LOL) Not at all, after all, it's not like you're bad at dancing, right?
Sato: No, no! I'm really not that different from an amateur after all.
Naka: It'll definitely be okay. You'll be able to dance!
Sato: Scary, scary! (LOL)
From Naka-san to Sato-san, is there anything that you would like to ask [him]?
Naka: I want him to tell me about "Sato Ryuji". Not things like, "What do you like?" "What are your hobbies?", but I want to know who he is, just like that [when he's being himself]. I want to know the things that you keep learning more of from natural conversations. That's why, I would like him to just be himself, who he naturally is!
Well then, from now on, it'll be about your observations. During the breaks in between the shooting for the [production] visuals and today's interviews, what are the parts [of each other] that you feel you've come to know about?
Naka: Uh...... I thought that his voice would quite often escape him in an "u~n" [sound].
Sato: The feeling of [something like] a fatigued old man? (LOL)
Naka: Sometimes, the old man [in him] would appear, I thought (LOL). After all, you're tired right, since you're always using your mind and moving your body.
Sato: No, no, that's not it. I'm often told that I'm a "person of the Showa era" [3]. [You're] Like an old man, they'd say (LOL).
Naka: Doesn't that mean that you have a dignified presence? I'm sure it's meant in a good way!
Sato: Is... That so. Thank you for the highest form of praise! (LOL)
Lastly, please give the audience a message!
Sato: This might be the first time that I'm acting as a rascal in a stage play. In the first place, it's the first human character that I've had in a while. After all, I've been doing characters who have some kind of power and are not human (LOL). This time, for the first time in a while, I'm looking forward to play a human [character]. I think I would like it if everyone could come and watch it without realising that it's "RomiJuri". I'm planning on creating a completely new thing, and the cast is also made up of some really prominent figures [in the industry], so I think that I would like to put on a sophisticated performance!
Naka: For this production, to me, there is nothing but challenges! Right now, I'm learning things like voice projection from the basics, and that's really fun! In terms of my feelings, I'm planning on going at it with a bang, and I think it would be nice if it became a production that would startle the audience who watches it. Please look forward to it!
NOTE:
[1] When he was actively practicing karate, Sato Ryuji was actually the Karate Champion of the Tohoku Prefecture.
[2] "Kata" is a term describing a specific series of variety of moves, which acts as a display of transition and flow from one posture to another, teaching the student the proper form and position in karate.
[3] Born in 1995, Ryuji is a Heisei child, but because of the way he thinks, his principals and his maturity, he is known by the people around him as someone who has an "old soul" and gets along well with friends and colleagues much older than him, like Kayano Isamu (the director of the Musical Touken Ranbu).
The final performance for the "Rock Opera 'R&J'" (which will be on July 7, 2019) will be available as a live stream on the DMM website. To watch the performance, please refer to this link:
