RP FanFic: When You Fall

Summary: Kimura Takuya had nearly fallen.

WHEN YOU FALL
Kimura Takuya had nearly fallen.
It was not a big deal really, and later, they all had a good laugh over it. When asked, and teased mercilessly, about it Kimura-kun only pouted and attempted to justify his apparent on-stage clumsiness, an attempt that was not very successful when the man himself was helplessly, if sheepishly, amused over the whole incident.
It was the staffs’ miss. They had pushed the button before they were supposed to, which meant that the front part of the stage had sunk earlier than planned. Distracted by his performance tension, Kimura-kun had not noticed the different levels of the stage, and he had nearly fallen as he stepped into midair, misjudging the unexpected distance. He had caught himself before falling flat on his face, but the sudden split-second awkward pause in his actions was enough to catch the other Members’ attentions. Of course they all had a good laugh over it. It was not everyday that you caught Kimura Takuya, of all people, nearly falling over on-stage because of apparent misjudgment.
But Inagaki Goro could still remember the sudden jolt as his heart stopped, leaping to his throat, when it happened.
Because it may have been nothing, most definitely nothing big or life-threatening, but it could have been worse. SMAP had had their fair share of accidents, what with Shingo and Nakai-kun’s injuries, and while the Members involved had put on a brave face for the audience and their fans, the remaining SMAP Members had bourn first hand witness to the physical pain they had had to fight, on top of the usual concert aches, and it had been an agony shared by them all. While not the most pleasant of times, together, with each other’s support, they had got through it, the euphoria of standing on stage made even better because of the challenges they had faced and overcome.
And all those times, Goro had been very thankful that those injuries had not been serious. Because they could have been.
Just as Kimura-kun could have been seriously wounded. If the sudden drop in the stage level had been bigger than it had been, if Kimura-kun’s natural athletic grace had failed him, if...
Goro shook his head, trying to clear away the ominous thoughts that threatened to take a hold of him, coming back to the reality where he was having dinner with Kimura-kun, Shingo and the rest of the SMAPxSMAP staff. Surprisingly enough, Kimura-kun, who was sitting beside him, had not noticed his distraction, still laughing and joking with the staff member sitting opposite him as he sipped at his rapidly emptying glass of wine. Goro watched his friend’s dancing eyes and wide smile. He could only imagine it too clearly, those eyes clouded over in pain, those features tensed in agony, and suddenly, the urge to protect rose wildly within him.
‘Excuse me, the wine list, please.’
Kimura-kun’s passing mention of wanting some citrone sorbet flitted through his mind.
‘Oh, and a serving of citrone sorbet as well, please.’
As the waiter inclined his head in acknowledgement and left, Kimura-kun threw a startled but appreciative smile at his fellow Member.
And Goro smiled back in return, the tension that lingered from his dark thoughts easing away.
It was not much, making sure that Kimura-kun had his fill of food and drinks, ensuring that the other man was comfortable and relaxed; it was not much.
But for that night, Goro just wanted to spoil his fellow Member, just wanted to do something, anything, to show that he cared, to calm his own crazy urge of wanting to bundle Kimura-kun up in a warm blanket and make sure that neither chill nor harm could touch him.
Because Kimura-kun had nearly fallen.
And Goro wanted Kimura-kun to know that should he stumble and should he fall, he had nothing to fear.
Because Goro would be there to catch him.

A/N: Loosely inspired by a jumble of events.
(1) The event of Shingo, Goro and Takuya going out to dinner with some SMAPxSMAP staff during the concert. Goro and Takuya were sitting together, and Goro was just taking care of Takuya by helping him order things, like asking for the wine list when Takuya needed wine and ordering citrone sorbet when Takuya wanted to eat it. They talked about this during the MC and I found it just too adorable. XD
(2) Takuya mentioned on What's Up SMAP that during one of their performances that he had tripped when the stage level had been changed and he had not noticed. The stage staff had decreased the level for the front stage earlier than they should have and Takuya, who had expected a level stage, had stumbled over the sudden step. A fan noticed this and sent in a message about it, describing Takuya's shocked expression as "cute". <3
