Book title of the day; and other adventures

On putting holds for people on stacks of books, I came across a book titled:

The Pleasures of Computer Gaming (Edited by Melanie Swalwell and Jason Wilson)

The first article in it is: "Little Jesuses and *@#?-off Robots: On Cybernetics, Aesthetics and Not Being Very Good at Lego Star Wars"

Heh.

In other news, I learned that fandom is not the only place where people debate the racism in Heroes. Apparently we also do it on the bus.

That is to say, on Sunday a young black gentleman and I struck up a conversation while I was heading to the video store to drop of some horror flicks. Upon learning that I'm a sci-fi nerd, the conversation turned to Star Trek and other sci-fi shows. When I mentioned Heroes, we started discussing our love for it, but he brought up his friend's concerns over the treatment of race and we started trading what we saw as oddly racialized treatments in the show. It was adorable-- I wish I'd had longer, but the video store wasn't that far away. I didn't even have a chance to get his email address! D:

He also suggested I watch City of God, which I've heard was good, but isn't my usual genre.

(Marcelus, if you see this, drop me a line! :D)

books, racism, heroes
