Octavia Butler 1949 -2006

I think vagabond_sal said it better than I ever could:

In a genre that prides itself on its speculative prowess, but all too often falls flat on its face, she twisted the world sideways and showed us that humanity can be, should be, the space where profanity and sanctity commingle. In a genre that prides itself on its forward-thinking and its inclusivity of all, but far too provides nothing more complex than a white-washed, Anglo-centric Dead White Male perspective on the world, she brought the invisible to the forefront and gave them power and beauty, wisdom and conviction.

Rest in Peace. You gave this little girl food for thought enough for the rest of her days.
