A word a day

I was thinking of the word 'hoarfrost', and wondered if 'hoary' was a valid adjective.

From Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary:

Hoary, adjective: 1. gray or white with or as if with age, 2, extremely old or ancient

i didn't know there was such a word as "hoarfrost".

And i always thought "hoary" meant prickly, as in the prickles on a durian or chestnut.

thanks for this. :)
