[DIY] How to Make a Johnny's Uchiwa

May 02, 2018 23:00

Sorry this post is just coming out of the blue but I went to Love-tune's solo Junior Matsuri live in Yokohama in March!!
Real life Keigo was so incredibly cool I can't even describe it in words♡♡♡( o´艸`)

I made an uchiwa for the first time, so I thought I'd share how I did it in case there are any other beginners out there looking for some tips^^ You can also learn from my mistakes and make a better one xD Let's get started!!

☆Time: 3~4 hours (this changes a lot depending on how fancy you wanna be!)

☆Materials:
Everything you need can be easily found at Daiso! Other 100yen stores like Seria also work, but the uchiwa there is made of a more slippery material so I've heard Daiso's uchiwa is easier to stick stuff to.
  • Black base uchiwa
  • Decorative sticker sheets (two colors plus black or white tend to look the best. The packs come with multiple sheets so it's alright if you mess up!)
  • Extra decorations (hearts, stars, peace signs, etc)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

*Things to watch out for*
100yen stores sell sparkly and holographic stickers as well as the standard neon ones. From what I read on Japanese sites online, apparently it's an unspoken rule to never use the holographic stickers since they can reflect light into the boys' or other fans' eyes.

☆How to Make Name Uchiwa:
  • Use http://uchiwa.j-fan.net/ to find your idol's name kanji
  • If it's not on the site, google something like うちわジャニーズ文字 [name]
  • Choose the font you like and print as big as will fit on your uchiwa
(Keigo's wasn't on the site so I googled うちわジャニーズ文字 萩 and used this one-)

  • Cut around the outer most edge of the kanji
  • Trace onto back of the sticker you want to be your base color
  • Cut out sticker
  • Cut around the next layer of your printed kanji
  • Trace onto back of sticker
  • Cut out sticker
  • *Repeat for as many layers as you plan on making*

*Things to watch out for*
Make sure you trace the kanji face down so that when you cut the sticker it won't be backwards. The picture on the right shows how I messed up when I traced part of the kanji face up and it ended up backwards when I cut the sticker out^^;
  • Stick the all the pieces on starting from the biggest pieces

  • Add on extra decorations as you like

All finished! There's a lot of things I want to improve on next time I make one (like making the kanji bigger and using black to add depth) but it's not too bad for my first try. And it made cheering on Keigo at the live way more fun~ ♥♥
Let me know in the comments if you've ever made an uchiwa or if you have any tips!( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
