One Picture of Summer Break
About to go home from supplementary lessons,
at the entrance way you hear a click.
When you turn, Keigo is standing there
holding a digital camera.
“Perfect!” he laughs.
“Why did you take it without asking?”
You pout jokingly.
“Now I’m self-conscious~!”
“What, do you want to take my picture too? Go ahead.”
I pull out my smart phone.
This kind of chance is rare!
When I point my phone at Keigo,
He also turns to take pictures of me.
“Let me get a picture~”
While laughing, we push the shutter buttons
and take countless pictures.
Outside the entrance way,
Keigo checks his digital camera.
“Yes! I was able to take a lot.”
“What are you going to do with all those?”
“I’ll treasure them.”
It becomes a bit quiet…
What? What did that mean?
My head freezes suddenly.
In front of me, Keigo’s face becomes bright red.
“Just kidding. Crap. Just kidding, I was just kidding!”
Excuse me!?
“I thought you were being serious for a second there!”
I try to joke as best I can, but Keigo responds, mumbling.
“I mean, because, you know, it’s super embarrassing…”
When I see him cover his face
with the hand that’s holding his camera,
I end up getting shy.
“Gosh, wait. I’ll start over.”
After he’s flustered for a bit,
Keigo takes a deep breath.
“I’ll treasure the real person, not the pictures. That’s why…”
