Alright, so it wasn't exactly Friday the 13th, but it was a Friday none-the-less. :P At any rate, I was feeling a little nostalgic and decided to see if I could find me a classic Friday the 13th movie to watch tonight, as, well, I needed a break from game stuff for a night.
So! I managed to find part 3. Now, when I was younger, I think like...10-12, my friends and I had this thing where if it was Friday the 13th, we'd all watch Friday the 13th movies and scare the bejesus out of each other. Why? I don't know! But it was always really fun!
I think it actually started after playing the original NES game. WHICH I BEAT. It took like 8 straight hours, no passwords, no saves, no nothing! You had to kill that bastard 5 times. 5 TIMES. That doesn't seem like much, but when you take into account that each time you face Jason, you only take off about 3 bars on his health meter, then run around hopeing to bump into him again, in order to take off 3 more. You had to take that health meter down to 0, 5 times. (It could have been more, I don't quite remember.) I remember the first time I had "killed" him, I was so excited thinking I had beat the game. Then you get this screen telling you what was basically the Fri.13th equivilent of "Thank you Mario, but the Princess is in another Castle."
At any rate. It's a fun game, and I think I'll dig out the cartridge and run the ol' NES old school tomorrow or something.
But to the movie! So I ended up finding part 3. Part 3, is where he first gets the goalie mask and to me is one of the better ones anyway. Although 4 is pretty damn good too...Fun Fact: He's not even in the first one. He actually doesn't appear until the 2nd one, with a damn potato sack on his head...(scary @_@). It's his mother that does the big killing spree in the first.
What can I say? It was awesome in the only way a cheezy 80's horror flick can be! I even jumped at points, enjoyed the horrible acting, and of course the obligatory b00bies scene. I've heard of a recent DVD boxset of the old ones (Not the, "Jason Goes to Hell(good), Freddy Vs.Jason(Anticipated this one for a long time before it came out: Was not disappointed), Jason X (Only redeeming feature: Rommie)" stuff.) and I think I'll keep an eye out for it, because I always really enjoyed them for whatever reason.
There are some funny moments though, in any slasher flick like this. My favourite, is the kids knowing full well about the horror's of Crystal Lake, and still going there anyway. (I wouldn't.) My 2nd favourite is the obligatory "Who's there?" scene. This involves the scary music, weird sounds, scared person, who, always calls out into the darkness as though his demise-to-be is going to reply "Your death" or something comforting "Nothing to worry about just a machete-weilding, goalie mask wearin' mass murderer!"
Another thing is that it's also always a girl that kills him in the end. (Hmm...it may have been a guy in the 5th one...for some reason I think it is). and you can always tell who it is right away. She's the one that doesn't smoke/drink/do drugs or want to fuck like a jackrabbit throughout the movie (if ever). In fact, she rarely has a boyfriend or love interest, until the end, who eventually dies anyway.
I've also heard rumors of a new one in the works. Should be interesting to see what they do. I've heard it's a mid-quel and is supposed to take place between 8 and Jason Goes to Hell (technically, 9). But I've also heard it might be a remake which seems to be the big thing in Hollywood right now. So that should be cool either way.
Anywho. Uninteresting, and I'm sure I'll get a "Work on Amethyst!" or two, but, I thought I'd share anyway. :P
Sleep!
