That's horrible. I wonder why...
It is.
I liked leaving it open ended like that because it could be taken in so many different ways. I've got a few in particular in mind, but I'm not telling.
Castiel didn't deserve this but it was good to see Dean's quick reaction have extremely dire consequences.
He didn't; but he also didn't deserve a lot of things in canon too. Exploding into leviathans doesn't seem much better; the poor angel can't seem to catch a break.
Just because he's the Righteous Man doesn't mean that he's always going to be right; I really wanted to show for once that researching and dealing with ancient magic that they've never seen before could completely backfire. I mean, what are the odds that every time they look up "kill it with fire" that the method will actually work without a hitch, right?
It was cool to see Mother being talked about.
Thanks, I was thinking about Lucifer in The End with his speech to Future!Dean while he fondled those roses when I thought it up. :)
