Character Info
Character: Sarutobi Mei
Age: 23
Rank: Tokubetsu Jounin (Tokujou): Weaponry
Bloodline/Clan/Chakra type: xx / Sarutobi Clan / Earth and a bit of Fire

Personality: Born into responsibility, Mei knows the meaning of hard work and dedication. These principles she puts into every aspect of her life despite the pressures often placed upon her for being Hiruzen's eldest child. But through the years, she has learned to live with such expectations. Even going as far as to use them to her advantages both on and off the battlefield. Often times, she is considered the voice of reason among her peers. However, that is not to say that she is not capable of creating her own mischief when the mood strikes. Especially with the right influences Kushina. But whether in the lives of all those around her or just in general, she serves as a maternal figure and puts forth an even mix of determination, confidence, and respect to all those around her (even when she does not receive the same in return) with an ever calm and collected attitude. Through strong influences from watching her father conduct his business throughout her childhood, Mei often provides a quiet comfort to anyone she comes across.

To enemies, strangers, and all those who would seek to oppose those that she chooses to align herself with, Mei is cold and calculative with an aggressive drive that could match or surpass any she comes across. Until a person gains her trust, she is cool, constantly defensive, and suspicious, all of which are the lingering effects from years of working as a shinobi, though she appears to have a soft spot for mistreated lost souls. Mei is not exactly anti-social, but with all the attention she received growing up as the protected child of the Hokage, she has a tendency to be more reserved and private, attempting to blend into the background of obscurity as it were so that she can be judged simply on her own merits instead of her family's reputation.

At first glance she does not seem the type to willing join such a profession, something that becomes more prominent as one gets to know her on a more personal level. But there are two sides to every story. Mei values honor and respect above all else and will not hesitate to fight for it. And while she may seem quiet and placid at first, once you scratch past the surface, you will find that she is always ready and prepared to get down and dirty with the guys. A typical average girl in an ever changing world, her only noticeable flaw would be the lack of confidence concerning her love life. Not one to go searching for a relationship, she is at a loss when one comes looking for her. And as comfortable as she has become with being in the public eye, it’s a whole different story when faced with one she actually likes in that way.

Background: Many aspects in Mei's life are governed by obligations. Both to others as well as to herself.

From the moment she was born on a chilly night in late January, a great responsibility had been set on Mei's shoulders. A burden to some. A great weight to most. By tradition, she could not inherit the full privileges of the Sarutobi Clan when she came of age. Only male heirs were given that right, save for in the most dire of circumstances when there were none to speak of. But despite that, she was still the daughter of the current Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen , and the eldest of his children. Not only did she represent him in every and all ways imaginable by mere name alone, it was also up to Mei to set an example for her younger siblings. To watch out and care for them until they could tend to themselves and ensure that the clan itself held on to its honorable position in society.

Because of this, she had learned from a very early age how to govern herself accordingly, always remaining respectful and ever patient as the entire village kept an attentive watch. To live up to the expectations that were placed on her. This, in turn, influenced the way she trained and worked to become a strong kunoichi for the village, using every advantage available to her to ensure that she would not be a disgrace to the family. Just because it was not her lot in life to become the next leader of the clan was no reason to do any less than her best, if not more.

By age seven, she was already showing promise, displaying a proficiency in weapon usage and chakra control at the Genin level. Not necessarily a prodigy. But every bit as exceptional as the daughter of the Hokage was expected to be. It was during these formative years that close ties were formed between Mei and one Namikaze Minato as well as one Inuzuka Tsume. But while the Inuzuka Clan was far more prominent, it was with Minato that she seemed to hold the closest bond with.

At age ten, Mei had managed to graduate from the Academy. A celebration that was short-lived after her mother died during childbirth a short time later. The child she carried did not survive either. It was Mei's first real taste of death and had come in an unexpected way, far from the battlefields that would become her playground as she progressed further and further though the shinobi ranks.

Such a devastating blow caused Mei to become more isolative and distant in social settings outside of her shinobi work save for the few who were closest to her. Those she had known and trusted for many years. Who had accepted her for who she was and not for her father's title. This not only had to do with the deceptions and underlying politics that were etched in every aspect of the profession, but for the simple fact that she feared losing someone else she cared deeply about. It was not until age thirteen when the Whirlpool refugees were rushed into the protective walls of the village that she began to realize that death was simply a part of the life that they lived. That they chose. And after realizing just how much the Uzu refugees had lost, Mei began to open up once more, ultimately making her first real friend since the incident with her mother. A young and fiery red-head by the name of Uzumaki Kushina who introduced her to a young blacksmith from the fallen Whirlpool Village by the name of Shirou.

The following year, with a bit of encouragement from her new friend, Mei achieve the rank of Chuunin. She would continue on to become a Special Jounin at age sixteen. At age twenty one, she and Shirou were married. And soon after turning twenty three, they had their first child. A girl named Tenten.

Now, she is set on keeping a balance between her double life as a shinobi and a mother. Something that becomes more and more difficult with the threat of another war or danger no doubt looming on the horizon.

Physical Description: On a physical level, Mei is what most people would call typical, in every sense of the word. Dark hair normally tied up and out of the way in a high ponytail. Dark eyes, a similar to her mother's chocolate brown orbs and dramatically sharp. Medium height, and an all too average frame for a young woman her age, at least on the surface. After a closer look, one would take note of the toned and conditioned muscles underneath, shaped and formed from the extensive training and development that comes with being one of the more active kunoichi of the village as well as having Sarutobi Hiruzen as her father. She stands at a good five foot five/ five foot six give or take a few centimeters or so, and weighs roughly somewhere between one hundred and ten to one hundred and twenty pounds. Typically average girl in an ever changing world.

Her tendency towards the average filters into her choice of training clothes as well. Deeply rooted in traditions and the conventions of the ninja, she can often be found in the standard shinobi gear specific to her rank and position. This includes a black Jounin Vest, a three-quarter sleeved black shirt with matching black pants, standard issue black shinobi sandals and gloves. And of course, a forehead protector with the symbol of Konoha engraved in the metal plate. She pairs this with a small number of hand scrolls filled with various projectiles including but not limited to regular shuriken and kunai, daggers, and fuuma shurikens.

RP Example: And as the metallic snap rang throughout the clearing, something inside of her broke as well. It was like a streak of red had flashed across the kunochi's field of vision, bringing forth a more primal side in Mei that she -- or anyone else for that matter -- did not know existed. Where there had been a level of patience and quiet determination in her demeanor before, there only remained a cold and deadly intent for revenge. And that, perhaps, was one of the most frightening things a person could come up against.

Anyone who knew or understood Mei on any level, any who was familiar with her affinity to weaponry, knew that there was little else that she held more sacred. That alone would have been enough to render a want for retribution for her broken tools. However, these particular set of twin hooked swords had been a gift from Shirou, carefully crafted specifically for her to use and care for. To have them broken right in front of her eyes...

Yes. Mei was out for blood. And there would be little Minato or Kushina could do to stop her from getting it.

Journal Post Example: The Daimyo's daughter is scheduled to arrive in another week and preparations are still far from being complete. With all the delays and constructional problems we've been having for the past few months, it's rather surprising that we manage to get as far as we have.

Let it not be said that the Konohan people are not resilient.

[PRIVATE] I... still can't believe he's old enough to even... It feels like almost yesterday when I was helping him take his first steps.

...Time flies when brothers are growing up. [/PRIVATE]

I hope all goes well when she arrives. A union like this will surely be helpful to the village. And... I think he really loves her. A rarity in such an arrangement. Then again, I suppose that's a family trait that we all share.

Comments/Questions: Um... is it alright for me to use and credit art from dA for Mei's icons?
