Sam Minilil moved from India to NZ in 1952 with his family. His father's parents had moved there in 1898, and they crossed the ocean to join them. He is the third generation to own and operate the family farm, which has included taking produce to the Otara Markets.
For 36 years he has gone there and helped set up their stand. He thinks it a great way to pass the time and a public relation. So many different types of people frequent the markets that he can learn new and interesting things from them.
His value of knowledge spawned extensive traveling during his lifetime. He has seen all of the pacific islands including Fiji and valued them each for what their culture could teach him.
Although he approaches the age of 70 and does now grow the crops himself nor travel much, he has a wealth of knowledge that he openly shares if you just ask.
