CHAPTER 5
The Man in Disguise
“Shizuka…Shizuka…”
“W-what happened?” Shizuka asked when she gained her consciousness. “Why am I here?”
“You fainted when I introduced your brother to you.” Her mother explained and then chuckled. “You must be surprised of how handsome he is.”
Her father nodded. “But our Shi-chan is beautiful as well, dear. I suppose they got your looks.”
“Ryosuke got yours.”
“You’re right, dear.” He agreed and then hugged his spouse from behind. For the second time, they were showing public display of affection in front of their daughter.
Shizuka didn’t understand why weird things happened to her these days. First, she was able to attend the concert for the first time. Then, she suddenly had to meet her mother and live in Japan. Her ichiban became her brother, too. Her serious, respectable parents turned out to be a super sweet couple in an instant. They’re even sweeter than teenage couples or honeybees during their honeymoon.
Oh well. It’s better now than before. I’m so glad for them. She told herself. “Where is he, Mom?”
“Your brother? Oh, we’ve already explained to him everything. He was too surprised at first because he didn’t know about you. He thought he was my only son.”
“He didn’t even know we’re coming?”
“Yes, Shi-chan. I was worried that he might not be able to concentrate on his concert so I waited for the right time to tell him.”
“I see.” She replied. ‘We’re in the same boat.’
“And also…” she added. “I SO LOVE SURPRISES.”
“Huh?”
“Yes, dear. Both of us love them. So we kind of intended not to tell you.” Her father intruded.
“Ohh.” She nodded. ‘So they were playing pranks at us.’
“I was surprised indeed. I never experienced being surprised by Dad before.” ‘Except the one about Ryosuke’s picture.’
“Ryosuke went out for a while to think over it.” Her mother continued.
“He was pretty shocked.” Her father laughed.

Keito was strolling around the park that afternoon. Since the concert just finished, he decided to take a rest there instead of sleeping inside the house. The surroundings were very clean and the air was so fresh, he thought that it would relax his mind more. He didn’t want to be disturbed by fans with their picture taking or autograph signing drama, so he wore a black leather jacket, an ordinary pants, cool hat and dark shades to cover his eyes. He was sure he won’t get noticed by that. Just when he thought he had an original style of disguising himself, he turned to his right side and saw another person sitting on a bench, wearing clothes exactly like his.
“Uhh, Yama-chan? Why is he here?” he thought to himself. Suddenly, he heard his stomach roar loud. “Ohh, now that I’ve heard it, I feel much hungrier. I should eat.”
He eyed a Western food restaurant nearby and did not hesitate to walk towards it. He was too hungry to think more. Upon reaching the place, he ordered for a meal according to his likes and started eating.
Without his permission, a girl wearing eyeglasses rushed towards his table and sat at the opposite chair, facing him.
“Yosh, I’m here.” She gladly said. She stared at him for a while and then laughed softly. “What a cute disguise you have there. You look like a famous actor avoiding a crowd, huh?”
He looked at her for a moment, scrutinizing her face. He didn’t know the girl so he was confused why she acted so close to him. However, he could not utter a word. He knew he would be in a huge trouble if this girl realizes that he was Okamoto Keito; thus, he preferred to shut his mouth instead.
“Oh, you’re so mean. Why didn’t you wait for me to come here before you order the food? Hmm, never mind.”
“What’s your order, Ma’am?” the waitress approached her.
“Pasta, please?”
“Okay. Please wait for a while, Ma’am.” She told her and left afterwards.
The girl turned to Keito. “Look how I look differently today!” she winked.
Keito studied her again, looking at her whole body this time. She was wearing a plain colored shirt and jeans. Her hair was also simply pony-tailed.
‘And what’s extraordinary with that look?’ he thought.
After a while, the pasta was served and he continued eating his food as well. The ‘unknown girl’ kept on chatting with him about certain things he could not relate with. He wanted to tell her that she might have mistaken but the lady seemed not to tire speaking and so his soft voice (that he was trying to alter) could not interrupt the girl.
“You’re weird today, Shinsuke kun.”
Just like what he was thinking, the girl had mistaken him for another guy. She wasn’t able to see his face since it was covered yet he could not take it off.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen you being quiet, you know?” she smiled. “And that shades of yours; you can actually take it off. No one would notice you, I swear.”
“No, it’s okay.” He said in a soft, hoarse voice so that she would not notice. “And by the way,”
He was again interrupted by the girl laughing so hard at him. “Funny, Shinsuke-kun. What did you do with your voice? You sound like a frog. Haha” she held her stomach which was hurting because of her laugh.
‘What, frog? I sound like a frog? You baka!’ he thought.
“Tokorode, let’s get to the main point.” She opened his right palm to him as if she was asking for something.
“Nan desu ka?” he asked.
“Where is it?”
“What is it?”
“The manga you promised me. Don’t tell me you forgot it. ”
“Ahh, that was what I was saying…”
“Oh, did you tell anyone about this? I told you it’s supposed to be a secret. You won’t break your promise, right?”
“No. I…”
“Right here, right here…” a man sitting behind Keito whispered, waving at the girl. He was also wearing an outfit that almost covered his entire body.
“Shinsuke-kun?” she surprisingly asked then looked at the guy in front of her. “Then, who are you?”
“I wanted to tell you I’m not but you won’t let me explain.” Keito clarified.
The girl stared at the guy, speechless. She blushed out of embarrassment to what she did. When she realized everything, she stood up and bowed in front Keito. “Ahh, sumimasen!”
