"Mirai-"
An eerie silence fell as I made my way to the window of my room. I looked back and saw him smile. The faint glow of his usual smugness amidst the darkness of the room made me feel warm inside.
I took small steps to make it to my bed, almost gliding on my way. I smiled back and his smile broadened.
"Let's go to sleep..." he beckoned. I followed suit and crept unto the bed, pulling the blanket over my body. I closed my eyes and felt his warm arms enveloping my body, sending jolts of electricity up my spine and back.
"Mirai..." he murmured.
Tears fell from my eyes as I spoke his name. "Ryosuke..."
"Mirai-chan~"
"Ryo-chan?"
"I love you." he said, not taking his eyes away from mine.
"Eh?"
"I said I love you."
I laughed. "I know that already."
"Tell me you love me too."
"What?"
"Tell me you love me too."
I raised an eyebrow. He did his usual puppy-eye technique but this time with a fervent intent of not giving up.
I sighed and smiled. "I love you Ryosuke. To the moon and back."
He looked contented and gave me a swift peck on the cheek which made me roll my eyes. "To the moon and back..." he added in a murmur.
"Now finish your assignment before I whack you like a mole."
We both laughed while he kept murmuring the words I told him as he wrote.
"Mirai..."
"You're awake." I smiled suddenly wiping the tears from my swelling eyes.
"What happened? What-?" he lifted his hand, a line of IV attached to it.
I tried to answer him without my voice breaking but it was a tough job. "You had one of your attacks again. But you're okay now."
"Honey... I'm sorry..." He reached my face and dabbed the tears flowing down my cheeks with his delicate fingers. "I'm sorry that you'd get to see me like this."
I shook my head. "No. I'm the one who's sorry. I couldn't do anything for you, especially in times like this."
He was silent for a while, probably trying to hold back tears. When he spoke, there was that measured softness in it. "Mirai, you've done me a great deal of happiness my whole life. If that isn't something then what is? Please don't batter yourself with this... with my situation. I'm happy and contented as long as you are with me. Smile for me, please."
I forced a smile on my face, having heard of his sentiments and I took his hand, holding it tight for fear that I might not get the chance to hold him for so long anymore.
"Ahh. I really can't help it if you love me this much, ne?" he said, pointing at my hand forcefully clutching his.
"Baka." I grinned.
"I love you, to the moon and back." he said.
"To the moon and back." I echoed.
I felt hot tears surging from my eyes, it helped me creep back to reality, to the reality that seemed to me more like a living nightmare.
I can still feel Ryosuke's warm embrace. I can still hear him whisper sweet nothings to my ears. And I can still feel his heart beating with mine.
"I love you, to the moon and back..." he whispered.
"To the moon and back..." I echoed, hoping against hope that the winds would deliver my message to him wherever he may be.
