Satomi was busy fixing the ruffled portions of her blue and white yukata when Sho cleared his throat. She looked up and smiled at him, eyes bright. He smiled back and tucked the stray hair to the back of her ears. He held a calla lily on his right hand and placed it on Satomi’s ears.
“You’re beautiful.” He said, amazed by the beauty in front of him.
She blushed. “Thanks Sho.”
He turned his gaze back to the night sky. “There are a lot of stars tonight.” He muttered.
“Yeah. You know I’ve always been amazed by them. They’re so distant yet they look really, really beautiful.” She ranted.
He chuckled. “Do you want the stars?”
“Yeah, I like them.” She mused.
He gently shook his head. “No, that’s not what I meant. I mean, do you want them? Like to keep them?”
She stared at him for a while and then chuckled. “Why, are you gonna give them to me?”
“Just say yes.” He grinned.
“Yes Sho. I would like to have the stars, though they’d be really hot in person.” she giggled.
“Which one?”
She placed her index finger on her lips, thinking. She then pointed at the tail of the Big Dipper. “That one!”
“Oh, the brightest one?”
She nodded.
“Alright.” He lifted his right hand and made a pinching motion at the location of the said star. Satomi smacked him in the shoulders, laughing. “What? Stop doing that. I can’t concentrate!”
“Sorry.” she muttered, still laughing.
He continued pinching at the star and then closed his hand, like he just caught the star. “See, I caught the star.”
“Where?”
“Here.” He opened his hand and a silver necklace with a star pendant imbued with a multifaceted diamond sphere dangled from his fingers.
Satomi was left silent, her mouth forming an O. “S - Sho.”
“Here, let me do the honors.” He stood up and placed the necklace on Satomi’s neck. “It suits you.”
“T - Thanks. It’s really beautiful.”
He sat back down on their picnic blanket and sighed. “You’re prettier than any star I have ever seen.”
“Stop it, you’re killing me with giddiness.” She said, laughing slightly.
Just then, the night sky turned bright when the fireworks display started. Different colored sparks spread its way across the sky, embracing the vast space. The stars turned out to look like mini-sparks on the sky, not letting their beauties be overcome by the fireworks.
Sho moved and planted a kiss on Satomi’s cheeks, who was caught off guard and turned a deep crimson, just like the heavens showered with red fireworks.
