Night Shift

A/N: I think this is prompt #18 (and/or 16) from 25 Facts About Shida According to Yamada. I don’t know if it’s that good. Tell me what you think of it.

It was Saturday night, which basically means movie marathon time. Since my parents and sisters were off to a party, I was left alone. I phoned my band mates but they were all busy with their own things to do. In that matter, I was left by myself.

I took out a DVD from the shelf and turned it on. I had a bowl of strawberries with me and a strawberry smoothie on the table. Yeah, most people on the jimoushu and especially the net would call me a strawberry-freak, but hell it’s what I like best. Well, actually that was just second best.

As I turned my gaze back on the TV, a lady in white suddenly moved close into the screen as if she could pop out of it anytime. I gasped and then tittered to myself. Silly me, getting scared of a little horror movie. I’m nowhere around the likes of Inoo-kun and Takaki-kun to be scared of a little movie.

A knock on the metal gate made me jump off the sofa and nearly fall to the floor. I placed the bowl, which miraculously didn’t fall off my clutches, on the table and headed out the house. A shadow of a small person stood behind the gate as I peered out.

“Who’s there?” I called out.

“It’s me.” an all too familiar voice called out.

“Mirai!” I hurriedly ran to the gate and opened it. “What are you doing here?”

She embraced a couple of books and notebooks in her arms. Her eyebrows rose as she said, “You forgot. You totally forgot.”

I thought for a minute before I realized that we had a previous agreement that she’d tutor me tonight. “Oh. Right. I’m really sorry, I forgot.”

“Nitwit.” She grinned as I took the books off her arms and headed into the house. “So what have you been doing the whole night?”

“Actually, I was watching a movie.”  I placed the books next to the strawberry smoothie.

“Well, maybe we could finish the movie first before studying.” She sat on the sofa and stared at the screen.

“Eh?” I stared in disbelief.

“What? Oh, and go get me one of these too.” She pointed at the beverage on the table.

“I just can’t believe you’re slacking on your studying rules.” I muttered.

“Oh, okay then. Shall we start studying?” she glared.

I turned my back, laughed, and went to the kitchen to make a smoothie. A few more minutes and I went back to the living room. There was no one on the sofa. I moved in closer and found Mirai, crouching on the sofa and holding dearly onto the pillows, covering her face from the screen.

“BOO.”

A rather debilitating scream echoed in the house. My ears hurt as my hands were unavailable to cover them. I even wondered if the police would soon come over, thinking that I was torturing someone. The sound was then followed by a series of panting. I placed the glass of smoothie in the table and sat next to her.

“Mirai…”

She looked up to me, eyes wide and lips red. Her white skin became pale and cold. She was afraid, but she was beautiful. I have read it from somewhere that one person could be devastatingly beautiful and sexually appealing when he or she is afraid, and now I have that living, breathing proof sitting next to me.

“Sorry.”

She grabbed my arms and buried her face on to it. “Don’t ever do that again, you fat dork.”

I laughed lightly. “Sorry, my puffy-cheeked bunny.”

She held on to me like it was the only thing that made her feel safe.
