1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest?
I wish I could say Peter Pan - this beautifully illustrated hardback cover I adored as a child - but it went missing in high school. Whilst I eventually found another copy (by pure, exhilarating luck at a book stall at university), it means it was pipped at the post by The Faraway Tree Stories. I obsessed as a child as much as I do now, and I read that book so many times the majority of it is no longer attached to the binding.
2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next?
My last read was Victory of the Eagles of the Temeraire books, which, ow. Currently I'm reading...um, Life on Air: David Attenborough's Autobiography, One the Couch: Tales of Couchsurfing a Continent, Lonely Planet's Travel Photography, Unseen Academicals and A Life in Pieces. Possibly I should be worried about my attention span. If I ever manage those, I have a book on women's travel I'd like to read.
3. What book did everyone like and you hated?
If we're saying "everyone" as in "the population" and not "the majority of my friendslist" (exempting a few of you - I swear I don't love you any less for it. Much) I have to say Twilight. It's actually quite rare for me to find a book I don't like, but that one managed it. -__-;
4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?
Ha ha I bought Lorenz's On Aggression at a uni book sale last year in a fit of geese-induced hilarity, but I can't say that I can imagine reading it any time soon. At least, not cover-to-cover. Maybe as a reference. ;D
5. Which book are you saving for “retirement?”
I have Philip Pullman's trilogy on my shelf, which has never been touched. It's all in one massive volume, which means it can't be carried anywhere and makes it too intimidating to start when I'm busy. That makes it essentially useless to me, regardless of how many times I'm reminded to read it by others. It'll have to wait. :S
6. Last page: read it first or wait till the end?
WHO THE FUCK READS THE LAST PAGE FIRST.
7. Acknowledgements: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside?
I usually forget to read them.
8. Which book character would you switch places with?
LAURENCE COME ON WHO THE HELL DOESN'T WANT A DRAGON? There's at least a billion other characters I could list here, but having a dragon pretty much trumps most of them. I also admire certain aspects of his personality as well, which is why the last couple of books have been so traumatising for me; I can imagine doing exactly what he did. D:
9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)?
Not.....really.
10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way.
The Picture of Dorian Gray. I kind of half-nicked it from a B&B in provincial France and ran away with it to Barcelona. I remember the B&B was practically a castle, with an actual, honest-to-god library. The owners told me that if there was a book I liked/started reading I could take it with me, but I'm not sure if they were serious or not. Thus the 'half-nicked'.
11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?
I've given away a lot of books, but none with meaningful intent. I gave my entire collection of children's books to my mother's class.
12. Which book has been with you to the most places?
Hmmm. I'm going to go with 'most countries' for that one, in which case it was probably something from my last trip to Europe. But since I can't recall precisely what those books were...I'll go with a few years before, which was particularly memorable because it was Battle Royale. Memorable because I refused to sleep in the same room as that fuck up of a novel while I was reading it, which was kind of difficult in hotels. Also, it made me throw up on a train in Switzerland. Ew.
13. Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later?
Essentially anything Shakespeare. I just could not grasp the language in my early years of high school and it made me cranky trying to decipher it. Since then, though, I've actually seen a lot of Shakespeare performed and for some reason hearing how it was supposed to be read helped a lot. I'm quite fond of a lot of the works now.
14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book?
I'm not sure I ever have! I vaguely recall something about a hilarious dedication (the book had obviously been a gift) that
fahye and I found once, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.
15. Used or brand new?
Used, I'm poor.
16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses?
Never read him. Keep meaning to read the Dark Tower series though, one day I'll get around to it.
17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book?
Actually: Lord of the Rings. My apologies to both JRR and the literary types out there, but dear god there is a lot of meandering in those books. JRR's world-building talents are truly epic, though, and that's what really came through in the films. Plus, Billy Boyd. <3
18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid?
Ooooo. Oh man, that's a tough one. Maybe Eragon? I haven't actually read the book, but the movie was one of only two in my life I just haven't bothered to finish (the other was Stomp the Yard). In the case of totally-missing-the-point, The Handmaid's Tale would be a good contender.
19. Have you ever read a book that's made you hungry, cookbooks being excluded from this question?
God, I have a travel lit book I read recently - he spends an entire chapter talking about this union of Italian restaurants dedicated to the preservation of local specialties (if you wander into one and order the chef's favourite by accident - it's not marked - they'll present you with a plate and a list of the other restaurants in the alliance). He then describes many of the specialties. In detail. I love Italian food.
20. Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take?
A friend by the name of Tegan. She reads rather widely, but if she recommends something to me I know she's taken my interests and attention span into account. She's never lent me anything I didn't like. :3
Speaking of Tegan, I meant to post this so long ago it's not even funny. Tegan is the person solely responsible for getting me through my psychology degree. As such I owe her a few favours, and since she's currently completing research, advertising is always good. :3

Hi,
I'm looking for female participants to participate in my online study on women's attitudes towards health issues. You will watch a short health promotion video and answer some questions - it should take no longer than half an hour.
You can find the study at:
http://research.millisecond.com/anu/healthpromotion.web Please contact me on [ask me for her email] if you have any questions.
Thanks for your help!!
Tegan

I'm trying to think of a way to bribe you into doing it, but I'm drawing a blank. Photo posts, maybe?
I know there's a few psych students on the flist though, so: if you're heading into research and want to know what it looks like, here's an opportunity!
