If you're buying a Vista computer sometime soon, go ahead and buy the Easy Transfer cable.
TRUST ME. Thirty or forty bucks is well worth the time you'll save pounding your head on your desk.
I just got ALL my files off my old computer - some 27,000 of them totaling some 23GB - in an hour. Yes.
I am still hassling with Outlook and the .pst file that was moved over. Jay tells me there's a repair tool but he couldn't remember where it was offhand (I didn't expect him to drop everything at work to find it for me). I think I might've found it - Microsoft Office -> Office Tools -> Office Diagnostics.
Anyway. I'm wiping the hard drive on the old computer now so Jay can have it for his project.
My new DVD drive is still DOA, though, and that's annoying as hell.
I'm going to celebrate with a cuppa.
EDIT: Office Diagnostics didn't do anything for me. But I was able to replace the corrupted .pst file with a manual backup I made just before I started with the new computer (I'm glad I listened to my gut that time) and everything's hunky-dorey.
So yeah. Things seem ok now. I need to start working on stuff for Rachael's birthday party tomorrow. We're doing handmade pizzas so I need to make the dough tonight and get the toppings ready. Running a load of dishes would be a really good idea, too.
