Dinner went well. Only my fingers were burned this time, though Mom did have a mishap with a plateful of taco. Not to worry, though...Resolve is miraculous stuff.

I'm feeling more and more the shift in focus from "all of us" to the kids as far as the holiday goes. We do stuff for the kids' benefit, we make sure the kids get gifts, we make sure THEY feel the magic. In return, we get to see the fire in their eyes that once graced our own.

They've settled down, finally, and all we have to do is make sure Santa arrives safely. The stockings are hung, the milk and cookies are on the coffee table, the breakfast pannetone is cut and set on the counter. Jay's downstairs, I'm having a cup of tea and thinking about how comfortable my jammies are.

I think we unwittingly stole Mom's thunder tonight, however. She'd bought Ice Age 2 with the intention of watching it tomorrow afternoon. I forgot about that until we cracked open our own copy and started watching it (with them) tonight. *sighs* Added to the lack of gifties, doesn't make me feel real "swuft" ("swift") as Mom would put it.

We do what we have to. We make do. We're stoic on the surface and cry out our disappointment in private.

I asked Richard what kind of report he wanted from me, as I wasn't sure I could make it to the BoD meeting next month. I don't want my parents paying our family's way. I know they'll offer, or at least want to offer.
