"I'm glad you came to see me finally." Sasami, who looked more like Tsunami every day, poured tea for them both. They sat on the couches as using the dinner table would be painful for Ryoko.
Ryoko sipped carefully. "Yeah, well. I don't like to be seen like this." The bruises still colored her right side and the cast on her right leg was driving her nuts.
"Really? You think I would give you a hard time for being human?" Sasami was teasing a bit. "Besides, maybe I can help."
"I don't see how. I've lost my gems, I'm not connected to Washuu anymore and I don't know what to do next." Ryoko kept her eyes averted, concentrating on petting an ecstatic Ryo-ohki.
"Well, make sure you come to me before jumping off a high-rise next time, huh?"
Now the space pirate blushes. "I was just thinking about it. I wasn't really going to, but I lost my balance." Right into the alley many floors below.
"Sure. Whatever you say." A note of gentle reproach hangs in Sasami's voice. "Like I said, I think I can help. You left something behind at Tenchi's when we all moved out I think you'd like to have."
Ryoko frowned. "What could that be? I didn't really own anything back then."
Sasami stood gracefully and went to a small wooden box on the sideboard. "They were in the closet. I guess you tossed them back there when you got the real gems from Tenchi." In the box are two red spheres, small enough to be earrings.
An impossible hope washes through Ryoko, quickly quashed by reality. "Yeah, but...they're empty. I used to use them to store energy for emergencies, but I can't do that anymore."
Sasami's expression became smug. "You can't, but I can. It's Jurai energy so it's different, but it might work."
"You-"
"Kindly remember who I am, Ryoko dear. I am Sasami, but I am also Tsunami, keeper and creator of the energy that rules the galaxy!" Then she giggled, the seriousness dropping away. "Will you let me try?"
Ryoko can only nod, too choked to speak. There's no way this will work...is there?
The light that pours from Tsunami's palms into the gems is such a brilliant blue that it's almost white. The false gems absorb it all, becoming brighter and brighter. Finally Tsunami opens her eyes and the flow stops, but the gems continue to pulse, turning from white-blue to red-orange of their own accord.
"That's all I dare put into them. Mine is foreign energy, but Washuu and I are... similar in many ways. Take them."
As if commanded, Ryoko picks up one glowing gem in each hand. Astonished, she feels them enter her skin and take up residence behind the scars left by Kagato's last strike at her. Light infused her; she cried out as she felt the broken bone mend with a jarring snap, much like the original injury. the same happens with the bruises as they fade completely.
After a moment Ryoko realized she was on the floor, Sasami beaming down at her. "Good enough?" she says with an impish grin.
"I think so." The restored girl sat up easily with no pain and stared at herself. Without thinking about it, she tears the cast in half, freeing her now healed foot and leg. She blinked in surprise, then laughed with childish abandon.
"You did it! Thank you, holy galaxy, thank you!" There's nothing on Earth or any planet in any star system that would thank Tsunami enough at that moment. Ryoko settles for a tackling hug, unaware even in her moment of joy that the sky was hers again at last.
