One of the things I have been pondering which I believe I should write though, is a quick note regarding my over-enthusiasm for things that don't particularly interest people.
I like when people are honest with me, just like I like to feel I can be honest with others. One of the things I really don't care for is when people humour me when it comes to conversation topics--please don't humour me, if I have cornered you on MSN or Facebook chat or Twitter or--god forbid--in real life and I am boring the hell out of you because I am talking about something you don't understand and/or care about please for gods' sake stop me.
I tend to go on and on about the things I like, it's the way I am. I explode with enthusiasm and accidentally drown those around me. Even so, I try and tone it down as much as I can... before I say or do something I tend to think to myself "if I were observing someone saying/doing this thing, would it annoy me?" and if it would, I tend not to do it (sooo many potential tweets have been reined in this way). If you're not interested I'd appreciate it if you'd tell me so instead of letting me blabber on and on. You're really not doing me a favour by pretending to be interested in things I say when you're really not, and you're really not going to hurt my feelings by telling me to stop because 95% of the time when I'm talking to someone I get the sneaking suspicion I'm boring them anyway.
I tell you all what, I'll give you guys a code. If I'm going on and on as I so often do and you're bored, just say
'YOU KNOW WHAT I LOVE? APPLE PIE.'*
I'll change the subject right away or stop altogether if you so choose and it's less awkward for you all than saying 'Hey, can you just... stop talking?' isn't it?
Of course this doesn't apply to LJ. My LJ is the only place where I will say what I want and not give a damn what anyone thinks. After all, if you don't want to see it it's easy enough to filter out/delete. But if I won't stop talking at you, please just tell me to go away. Or mention how much you love pie.
*Because who doesn't love apple pie?
