De Efteling

Okay, so... it's so easy to put photos on Facebook that I'm hardly motivated to put them up here XD *kicks herself up the backside*. I know not everyone visits Facebook, though, and I suppose I should write about about what I actually did... so here goes.

On Saturday, rikudrak  and I visited a fairytale-themed amusement park called The Efteling (you can change the website language at the bottom of the page), a place I last visited when I was only teeny-tiny. THIS is my kind of theme park. I don't need to see Disneyland, or Sea World, or any of them... the Efteling is, and probably will always be, my favourite.

This beautiful sculpture was inside the gift shop.

Essentially, the whole park is in a forest. A large part of the forest is called 'het Sprookjesbos', or rather 'the fairytale forest'. Throughout this forest there are all sorts of displays and dioramas, some of them interactive--of different folktales or fairytales. Castles such as the ones in the photo were abundant, and all of them housed intricate displays of different stories.

I wish I'd taken more photos in het Sprookjesbos. This is Tom Thumb, trying to steal the 7-mile boots from the giant. All of the displays move; in this one the giant snored, shifted around a bit, and you could see him breathing. Tom Thumb himself constantly hid in the ferns and occasionally popped up.

In this building was the Snow White fairytale, but it was too dark to take nice pictures. Pretty building, though <3

The exit out of the main courtyard of het Sprookjesbos. All the gardens were perfectly looked after, and again there was more cute castle-like scenery.

Like most theme parks, there were also a lot of rides. They're all included in the entrance fee, so you can ride as many as you want in the day. This is Riku and I standing in line for the 'Halve Maen' ship, which was one of those big swinging pirate ships.

WHEEEEEEEEEEEE

Probably my favourite ride of the day, the Flying Dutchman. Also the Efteling's newest ride. This is the exterior...

...and this is the interior.

The line was intensely long, but interesting because you went through those buildings, through tavern settings and alleyway settings, with folksy pirate music playing... it was absolutely fantastic, and I was completely awestruck by how wonderful everything looked. It was like I'd been warped into a pirate movie.

We went up in the large viewing platform, the Pagode, as well. Here's the Flying Dutchman again, from the top of the Pagode.

Anyway, that's enough for now, there are more pics in the Facebook album I linked to above. I do have London pics, but since I'll be going back there towards the end, I'll just leave them all to one big post :3 It was a fantastic day, and I'm so glad my memories didn't set me up for disappointment; it was ever better than I remembered it to be.
