Disclaimer: I don't own any of the people in this story. I only created the storyline.
The worst day of Jin’s life was coincidentally the worst day of Kame’s. Or maybe not so coincidentally. After all, they were the star-crossed lovers that had already suffered so much, so what was one more day of suffering. They had already been split apart by Johnny when Jin was sent to America, not once but twice. Kame had to endure the scandals that Jin created to divert attention from them, but they were working together to keep their relationship.
Now, all Kame could feel was an emptiness in his heart. Because Jin had screwed up. JIN was the one that broke his heart. It wasn’t the media, Johnny, or work pressure that had created the fractures in their relationship that had pre-existed. Rather, this was the final thing that added enough pressure to cause the collapse of their relationship.
He knew that the other emotions, anger, bitterness, hatred, envy, they would all ensue. Give it a couple days, maybe even a week before he could regain any feelings, because all he felt now was numb. When Jin first told him, he cried. Well, not cried, the English language doesn’t even have a word for what he experienced, but now there were no more tears left to shed.
All he could do, all he had the energy to do was sit against the door of their, no his, apartment.
Flashback
Jin still hung out in KAT-TUN’s dressing room even though he was no longer a member. He created the most obscure and ridiculous reasons to be there, and half the time Kame wasn’t even there. Even though they were supposed to be separated, supposed to not have a relationship, their love was obvious. Jin’s solo career and their discretion, though minimal at best, was the only thing that permitted Johnny to allow them to continue their relationship.
Waiting for Kame, Jin smiled. They were good together. Hell, they even had a nickname that Takki created, that’s more than a lot of people could say. Ryo would always joke that they were the perfect couple and for the most part, it was true. All the juniors envied them, and though he would never admit it, Ryo did as well, because any idiot could tell that they truly loved each other.
Though, in the five years that they had been a couple, their relationship wasn’t without flaws. Jin would always complain that Kame was a workaholic, it was true and Kame would repeatedly chastise him for his late nights out clubbing with the Akanishi Gang. One of the things that plagued their relationship the most was Kame’s jealousy issues it had caused them to “break up” many times, when Kame would question Jin too much or become too clingy, but every time they would get back together.
Jin mused to their last fight. It was after an article about Meisa and he was posted in some damn gossip magazine. Of course, the rumors of them being together weren’t true. They were just friends, good friends, but only friends. Nevertheless, despite his placating words, Kame had kicked him violently out of their shared apartment and tossed his clothes and other things out. Jin was convinced that this was the end
Hours later, Pi found Jin at a bar, the usual one they went to especially after he and Kame had gotten into a fight, but this time was different. Beside Jin’s bar stool was a suitcase bulging at the seam. Pi felt a sense of hope rise up in him, but squashed it down. Sure, he had never seen one of their arguments escalate to bringing a suitcase into it, but everyone knew that though the Akame couple loved each other very much, they were equally volatile.
“We’re over.” That’s all Jin said, barely acknowledging Pi’s arrival, yet it was enough. This one was different, much worse than the others.
“You’ve fought before, you’ll fix it.” Pi reassured his best friend, ordering a drink silently while listening to his friend’s drunken sobs.
“Not this time.”
That happened a month ago, and sure enough, like Pi said, three days later, they moved back in together in their typical Akame fashion.
Kame sat there for hours, in disbelief. “I should have known…I should have realized after that phone call.” He mumbled to nobody in particular. Maybe Ran-chan, but the empty house gave him no response. What was even worse, was all remnants of their relationship were gone. Jin, presumably with the help of Pi and Ryo had collected all of his belongings: clothes, DVDs, old pictures, as if their entire relationship didn’t even exist. That was the worst part. Jin moved on.
The previous day…
Jin waited in KAT-TUN’s dressing room, knowing full well that the rehearsal could continue for hours. He paged through the magazine that lay on the table, smiling when he got to the feature about his Kame. Even in the pages, the Kame that stared back at him took his breath away. I really love him he thought to himself.
But as well all know, this story doesn’t have a happy ending. Through his jeans pocket, Jin felt the vibration of his handphone, and reached in to answer it. “Moshi moshi.”
“Jin, it’s Meisa.” Jin furrowed his brow quizzically, he hadn’t talked to her in about a month.
“I’m pregnant.” Jin didn’t even have to ask if the baby was his. Meisa wouldn’t have involved him if it wasn’t his and with this one phone call, Jin knew it was over. Stunned, he hung up the phone and before he realized it his legs were carrying him away from the Jimusho to Pi’s house. He didn’t realize when he had begun to cry, all he knew was by the time he reached Pi, his vision was completely blurred and his body was wracked with sobs.
He knocked on the door knowing that Pi would be home since it was one of his few days off, and a few minutes later, a sleepy Pi answered the door immediately sobered by the sight of his friend sobbing like this though he wasn’t drunk.
“I got someone pregnant.” Pi looked stunned.
“You… cheated on Kame?” he asked equally horrified and incredulous.
“It was a month ago.” Suddenly, Pi understood and a tightness clenched at his heart.
“Does he…”
“Not yet…I don’t want to tell him…He’ll break up with me.” And they both knew this was true. Kame was too noble, too selfless to separate Jin from his unborn children nevermind the hurt that he would feel.
“Tell him today. Or I will.” Jin looked up stunned at the cold tone that his friend used. “I can’t let him get hurt because of you.”
Jin detached from his friend’s embrace and hung his head in shame knowing the conversation with Kame was inevitable. He felt sick to his stomach and as he sobbed on the walk home all he could murmur was his name over and over again as if he would lose the right to say it again. “Kame…Kame…”
Arriving home, the lights were still off, making it even worse knowing he’d have to ponder how he was going to break the news to Kame. How do you tell that to someone?
He collapsed on the couch not bothering to turn the lights on and sat there covering his face with his hands. Later, he didn’t know how long, he heard a set of keys jangle in the lock. Kame was home.
“Jin...?” He asked hesitantly as he entered the apartment.
“Okaeri.” I said, my voice a little hoarse and I hurriedly wiped away any evidence of the tear tracks that marred my face.
“What are you doing here in the dark? I thought you were going to wait for me at the Jimusho?” He asked curiously and worriedly knowing that this was out of routine for me.
I closed the distance between us in three strides, embracing him immediately. “Can we just stay like this for a little while?” My voice broke as I asked one of the last requests from him. Kame nodded stunned, but silently stroked his hair as they stood in the embrace.
If only we could stay like this…Jin thought.
Earlier today
“Jin are you okay?” Kame asked hesitantly as he was preparing breakfast.
“No. not really.” Kame didn’t prod but looked up from the omelet that had had his complete focus.
“Meisa’s pregnant.” Kame looked at him warily.
“But you said…”his voice trailed off in horror and for fear that if he continued the thought he’d be right.
“At the time… the pictures…I told you the truth. We were, are, just friends. But we were fighting about those pictures, and you wouldn’t answer my calls or texts, and then I met her.” Kame covered his mouth as he paled, seeing this change on his beautiful Kame’s face caused the tears that had welled up in Jin’s eyes to spill over.
“And we drank…a lot. I was miserable without you and when I woke up…It was a mistake. I’m so sorry.”
“Is it yours?” Kame already knew the answer but dared to ask anyways preparing himself to hear the answer.
“Yes.” Jin answered honestly and though Kame had tried to prepare himself for that response, hearing it out loud felt like little daggers were poking at his heart. In that moment, he wanted to say a plethora of things, slap him, punch him, and surely Jin would have tolerated any of that.
“Leave.” Kame said. “Leave now and don’t come back.” He stood up from the chair and ran out of the apartment door walking away, anywhere to try to escape the pain that he felt. When he finally returned to the apartment it was already dark, and Kame knew that Jin had left, and when he left he took that piece of Kame who loved him with him.
Tonight was not a good night. Kame sat against the door, and Jin sobbed lying on the hotel room bed that he had rented out indefinitely. Little did either of them know that that day when everything came crashing down, a third person’s life was ruined, across Tokyo, Pi found his heart breaking as well.
