Summary: A few years ago Ohno broke up with Nino and Nino had no idea why. Three years later, they meet again unexpectedly on a date they had set aside earlier in their relationship and questions arise about the past. Nino is famous now, and Ohno's just ordinary, but will the same feelings they had reawaken?

When it looked like Ohno had left, Nino mustered up the courage to enter the gallery. He turned on the lights that Ohno had just turned off. In the freedom of being alone in the large gallery Nino took his time with every piece that Ohno had created and it felt like he was taking a walk through Ohno’s life. There was the one that he was in, but there were others as well. There were ones that predated their relationship mostly the subject of nature, there were ones that he had seen while they were together, but after they broke up, the paintings changed. They were darker, they seemed sadder, and they became more abstract. Did you suffer? Nino wondered and realized that there were many, many things that he didn’t know about Ohno. In the corner of the gallery was a door and when Nino got closer he noticed that it hadn’t been properly shut. He knew that he shouldn’t enter, but curiosity got the better of him. The room was pitch black and Nino fumbled for the light switch. When his hand finally reached it, he illuminated the room and was stunned at Ohno’s studio. On the wall, almost covering every bare inch of space were paintings and they all had the same subject: him.

He moved further into the room and his leg brushed against a pile of magazines on the floor scattering them. Nino bent down to pick them up and when he looked at the covers he realized that all of the magazines were ones that he had posed in. Scattered in the magazines were pictures that Ohno must have printed up from the internet. He panned the paintings on the wall and each on encapsulated a moment in their lives together.
The first was one of Nino as a little boy, right when their friendship had first started. The second was one of Nino cradling a puppy, the one that he had rescued as a teenager and had fostered. The third and fourth were ones where Nino was smiling, but the fifth was of Nino crying probably after a failed audition, the painting, unlike the previous ones was darker and more morose and in the background was a hand reaching out to comfort him. It was Ohno’s.

There were ones that followed that were painting of pictures that had been taken of Nino as a model, some of his earlier work. But there was one that broke his heart. It was a picture of him sobbing on the floor; it was the day that Ohno had broken up with him and perhaps it was just Nino reading into the picture, maybe it was something he wanted to see and wasn’t even there, but he thought, maybe, just maybe, Ohno was just as heartbroken. The ones that followed were just copies of magazine covers that Nino had been on after they’d become estranged. The words that Ohno had told him that one day echoed in his mind.

“So what am I now, your muse”

“You always were.”

Nino further approached the paintings and noted the dates when they were created. They were all made after their breakup. Nino was left confused and completely unsure of what Ohno was thinking, but there were two things that he was absolutely sure of. He needed to talk to Ohno. And secondly, nobody creates a private gallery about somebody that they claim to hate.

Nino stood in awe and didn’t even hear the door of the gallery open again. He should have heard the pounding footsteps that raced towards him but he didn’t. The only thing that shook him out of his reverie was a voice that came from behind him.

“I don’t know who you are, but you need to leave or I’m calling the police.” Ohno. His voice tried to be authoritative, but in reality there was a quiver to his voice.

Nino turned around and when Ohno saw his face and realized that Nino had seen all of his paintings, his private paintings the ones that were all about him, he had a look of sheer terror. “What are you doing here?” Ohno asked.

Nino held up the key that Aiba had given him and waved it in the air, “Aiba told me I should come. We need to talk.” Nino said and held Ohno’s gaze. He could have sworn that Ohno cursed Aiba under his breath.

“Gomen, Ninomiya-san, you shouldn’t waste your time.” Ohno turned to leave, but this time Nino wasn’t going to sit by and passively watch him leave. He spun him around and pinned him against the wall. “Why did you break up with me?” Nino asked afraid of the answer, but he still wanted to hear it.

“I got tired of see you. You started to annoy me.” Ohno repeated the same sentiments as he had when they broke up but this time his conviction was weakened.

“You don’t get to do this.” Nino hissed. “You don’t paint someone who annoys over and over again. You don’t collect the magazines that they are featured in. You don’t get to do that and then say that you are tired of me.”

“I was holding you back.” Ohno slid down the wall.

“When did I ever tell you that?” Nino yelled. “When did I ever say that you were a hindrance.”

“You didn’t have to.” Ohno roared back.

“There’s a party that I’m invited to, it’s the unveiling of Jun an d my’s photoshoot.” Nino brought up as they were lying in bed. “And I was wondering if you’d be willing to be my date?” Nino blushed shyly and Ohno smiled up at him.

“I would be honored.”

“Really?” Nino perked up and wrapped his arms around Ohno’s neck. “It’s nothing that fancy, but just meeting with a few people. Thank you for coming.” Nino smiled into Ohno’s neck. A few days later, a package arrived onto their doorstep for Ohno and he figured it was what Nino wanted him to wear to the party the next day since Nino couldn’t pick it out himself being that he was at a photoshoot for a few days.

When Ohno opened up the box, inside lay a perfectly iron tuxedo,”Nothing fancy, right.” Ohno tried on the tux and looked at himself in the mirror, he was chubby, Nino was perfectly built for a tuxedo, but Ohno was too short and chubby, and he was convinced that it made him look like a penguin.

Nino returned home the day of the party and whistled when he saw Ohno wearing his tux. “What did I do to get such a sexy boyfriend.” Ohno looked Nino up and down and was once again reminded as to why Nino was a model. The tuxedo that he wore was tailored to his size exactly and a primal part of Ohno wanted to tear it off of him.

“You don’t look too bad yourself.” Ohno flirted innocently. ”Come on.” Nino held his hand and they hailed a cab together and went to the address of the party. When they entered Ohno looked up at the vast ceilings and the ornately decorated walls in awe. Who had this much money? When they entered they, rather Nino, was warmly greeted by a throng near the doorway and they slowly made their way through the crowd of people.

Nino introduced him to a few of his model friends and excused himself to mingle with a few of the higher ups that were there. Ohno tried to make small talk and the people that Nino had left him with were nice enough, but it was clear that Ohno was an outsider to their world. They made some small talk but eventually they went their own ways and left Ohno near the corner of the room alone.

It’s not that Ohno minded, he looked around the room to find Nino and smiled as he saw him chatting animatedly with a few people that he’d only seen on the television before. A few people who didn’t know who Ohno was approached him in hopes of getting a career boost by conversing with him.”Who are you with?” They asked politely and Ohno replied with a proud smiled, “Ninomiya Kazunari.”

“Are you his manager? Assisstant?” The asked hoping to pry some details about Nino from Ohno.

“I’m his boyfriend actually.” Ohno said sheepishly. One of the women apologized immediately and said, “Sorry we were mistaken, it’s just Ninomiya-sama is so attractive and, well,…” Her voice trailed off, but Ohno understood what she meant. Nino was attractive and he was not, it was like they didn’t even look like they belonged together.

After they parted, Ohno felt ashamed that Nino was tied with him, he didn’t belong with someone like Nino, someone so perfect, and kind, and gorgeous, when he was just a short, chubby, struggling artist. They weren’t even in the same world. A man caught his eye and excused himself from the crowd he was with to approach Ohno. The man reached out a hand and smiled warmly at Ohno, “You’re Ohno Satoshi, right? Nino’s boyfriend. He’s raved about you.” Ohno smiled at that and regained some of his lost confidence from the previous conversation. “I’m Matsumoto Jun, it’s nice to finally meet you.”

Nino glanced over to where Ohno was talking with Jun, he smiled and found a way to cut off the conversation and approach the other two. “You two finally met.” And he threw a friendly arm over Jun’s shoulder. Jun waved goodbye to the two and left, Nino noticed a frown on Ohno’s face.

“Is everything okay?” He asked concernedly and when to brush a stray piece of hair from Ohno’s face like he usually did to soothe Ohno when he was stressed, but this time Ohno brushed his hand off surprising the two of them. “Sorry, everything’s fine, I’m just tired.”

They stayed there a little bit longer, but the entire time Ohno seemed disturbed and preoccupied and Nino worried about him. In the privacy of their home, after they’d changed into more comfortable clothes, Nino hugged Ohno and asked him what was wrong.

“I’m fine, Kazu. Sorry for worrying you,” Ohno flashed a smile, but Nino thought it was forced.

“That night. At the party, you started acting weird. After that you started to avoid and ignore me. Did someone say something to you?” Nino remembered that right before Ohno started acting bizarrely he’d been talking to Jun. “What did Jun say to you?” Nino demanded, feeling hurt at the thought that his current boyfriend could have been the reason that broke them up.

Ohno shook his head, “It wasn’t Jun or anybody else, I just didn’t see us anymore.”

“But you’re still in love with me.” It wasn’t really a question and when Ohno didn’t reply, Nino knew that he had his answer, but there were still questions that needed to be answered. “Was it Jun?” Nino asked again.

Ohno just shook his head. “We’re just two different people now than we were before. And look, your career’s taken off since we broke up.”

“My career? Do you think I cared about my career when my childhood best friend and boyfriend left me sitting on the floor sobbing? I wanted you! That was all I needed.” Ohno was being difficult and wasn’t telling him what happened that day. “Fine, I’m leaving.” Nino relaxed his grip on Ohno and went to find the one person who could possibly answer the remaining questions that he had.

“Jun!” He yelled when he got home. He found Jun sitting on the couch looking at some of their new pictures. “We need to talk.”

“That doesn’t sound good.” Jun said jovially, but when he turned and saw how serious Nino looked he put the magazine down and became equally stoic.

“That evening when you first met Ohno, what did you tell him?” Nino demanded trying his best to not yell at Jun, but his gut feeling told him that there was something off.

“I told him the truth.” Jun shrugged.

“I’m Matsumoto Jun.” He outstretched his hand.

“It’s really nice to meet you as well.” Ohno gladly shook it and smiled at Jun.

“It was really nice to work with Nino, he has some natural talent, that kid.” Ohno smiled at hearing such praise for a well-respected model like Jun.

“That’s amazing hearing it from you. He’s idolized you for a while.” Ohno replied and Jun played down the flattery with as wave of his hand.

“Down to the point. You should break up with him.”

“W-what?” Ohno sputtered, mystified by the change in events.

“Ohno loves you, and you seem like a really, really nice guy, but if you stay by his side you will hold him back.

“He’s gorgeous, but people will not give him jobs because he’s tied to you. You won’t be able to deal with his lifestyle being away from home for extended periods of time. Do you think that a relationship with him being famous and you being normal can last? Look at what happened today. People mistook you for his manager or assistant, right?”

“You’re just jealous.” Ohno shot back, though his argument was weakened by the truth in what Jun was saying. Perhaps he was just vocalizing Ohno’s fears, but hearing them aloud made them seem even more like the truth.

“I once had someone like you by my side, a regular person, and things were fine, for a while, but then he became insecure and I was torn between my job and him and things didn’t work out. It’s not just me though, there are other people who’ve tried to work things out with regular people and it just doesn’t work.”

“Do you ever regret it?” Ohno asked Jun.

“No.” He replied tersely, but even he wasn’t sure if it was the truth.

After Jun had relayed what had happened between them, he was met with a slap across the face from Nino, who by now had started to cry. “You told him that? You had no business to do that.”

“I was right though. After you broke up with him you became more popular.” Jun pointed out and it was true.

“Even if we faced those problems, I would have given up my career for him.” Nino said, angrier than he’d ever been.

“That’s why he broke up with you. All you probably talked to him about was your dream of being famous and he knew that you loved him. He knew that you wouldn’t kick him to the curb, but he didn’t want you to sacrifice your dream for him.”

“Is that what happened with your person?” Nino asked  Jun.

He paled and replied, “No.”

“I have to go,” Nino ran out of the apartment and knew what he needed to do. All of the feelings that he had had from three years ago came back to him, or rather were awoken from their dormant state. He ran across town to where he had left Ohno in his studio room. He ran and when he reached it he saw the lights were still on. Thankfully, when he jangled the doorknob it released and he plowed through the gallery.

In the studio where he had left him, Nino found Ohno hunched over his workspace burying his head in his hands. As he approached, he saw Ohno’s shoulders shake and heard sniffles coming from him. “You’re such a baka.” Nino said, and Ohno stood up at hearing that familiar voice.

Nino walked over to him and threw his arms over the other’s neck. “Ohno, Ohno.” Nino whispered the name soothingly to Ohno who had now buried his head in the crook of Nino’s neck and inhaled his scent as if it was just a dream. “Why did you think that you had to have the burden of making decisions for us on your own? Jun told me everything and I had no idea that you had such insecurities about us.” Nino pressed his forehead up to Ohno’s and looked him in the eyes.

“I chose you. Thank you for loving me all this time.”

“I thought you hated me.” Ohno choked out. “I wanted you to be happy. I wanted you to live out your dream.”

“It means nothing if I don’t have you with me. I’m so glad that you came to Tokyo Tower that night and made me question things.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t keep my promise.” Ohno continued to cry and Nino gently smoothed his hair with his hand like old times.

“It’s okay, I love you and besides, we still have eternity together, and besides you need your muse back.” Nino promised.

Two years later

“Close your eyes.” Ohno covered Nino’s eyes with his hands as he guided him to an undisclosed location.  Ohno had planned this for a while and Nino graciously agreed to join him.

“Step up.” Nino moved tentatively since he was deprived of his vision but trusted Ohno. He kept his eyes closed while Ohno moved away for a split second and suddenly he felt the ground beneath him begin to move and heard a mechanical whirring. “Are we in an elevator?” Nino asked but Ohno didn’t divulge any details and only replied “You’ll see eventually.” Holding Nino’s hands out in front of him to guide him, Ohno pulled him out of the elevator and Nino felt a cool breeze hit his face.

“Are we outside?” Nino asked.

“Okay, open your eyes.” Nino looked and when he saw the familiar Tokyo skyline, the trademark of the Tokyo Tower.

“This is two year too late, but these past two years being with you have been the happiest of my life. The three years when we weren’t together were hell for me, but I love you and I know I’m just a chubby, short, struggling artist still, and you are Ninomiya Kazunari, but when we’re together, I don’t see us that way anymore. I love you, I love you, I will tell you that every day for the rest of my life if you will spend them with me.”

“Even if you didn’t know it, you asked me five years ago. You asked me when you showed up here three years after we broke up and I already said yes when I accepted you back in my life.”

Ohno kissed him on top of the Tokyo Tower completely oblivious to who might be looking or taking pictures and he decided to take Nino to his next job, coincidentally with Jun. “Hello Ohno.”

“Hello, Jun.” The two greeted having long set aside the past.

“I asked Nino to stay with me today and he agreed.”

“Of course he agreed, he broke up with me to be with you of all people,” Jun joked. It had taken a while but the three had developed a strong friendship.

“You know, it’s not impossible to have a relationship with a non-celebrity. There are problems, sure, but it’s not impossible. Maybe you should give him a call.”

“Nah, he’s over me. I promise you.” Jun smiled a bitter smile and walked inside with Nino for their job.

The photoshoot went smoothly and they took a fifteen-minute break in which Jun took out his cell phone.

His finger hovered over the speed dial and he pressed the button just so that he could hear the sound of the other’s voice.

“His you’ve reached Toma Ikuta’ s voicemail, I’m sorry that I can’t come to the phone, but please leave your contact information and I’ll get back to you.”

Jun heard the tone buzz, but didn’t talk. He never did. He was ready to end the call when a voice began to speak on the other end. “Hello… hello…Jun?”

Jun cleared his throat and began to speak. “Hi Toma. How are you?”

AN: Second Ohmiya fanfic. I think that this is one of my favorite fics for writing and I'm really proud of it so I hope you like it. Should I make a Jun/ Toma sequel?
