Kento gave them an indifferent look; there was no his usual infectious smile. He glanced at Misaki, who he had done his best ignoring until then. “It seems like Misaki have made his mind regarding the matter. There’s nothing we can do, right?”
The most junior, Hokuto might think it was a relevant answer but Misaki noticed Kento’s tone of speaking. It did not seem like he was telling the truth at all and his voice was all strained. Somehow, it made his heart ached more; it hurt more than seeing Fuma’s tears.
“I’m going home.” Fuma stated with his puffy eyes. “Hokuto, pick my bag. Let’s go home. Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow, I’ll find out that this is merely a dream.”
Hokuto obeyed Fuma at once and they left the room. It left Misaki and Kento alone in silence. Misaki covered his face, thinking again about the decision he had made. It was not his intention to make Fuma upset, let alone crying. He knew Fuma had been really dependent to him; he, Misaki, had fixed both Fuma and Kento’s schedules since they became B.I. Shadow, he had lead the group, even though the leader was actually Kento, he had managed to get both of them work when all they wanted to do was playing around. But unfortunately, the thing could not continue that way, and it was not his fault.
“You are a good kid, right, Takahata-kun? I’ve seen your grades at school, they are great. Why don’t you just concentrate on your studies?”
“In your next performance, Nakajima-kun will be at the centre. He will be singing the solo lines. Give Kikuchi-kun some solo lines too. You are fine with not having any, right, Takahata-kun?”
He had tried to ignore all the hints. It was so obvious but he tried to put up with them for the sake of Kento and Fuma. But there was something he could not ignore, which made him deciding that it was the time he should make his decision.
“I am thinking of debuting a new unit in this summer. They will be called Nakayama Yuma with B.I. Shadow, consisting of Nakayama Yuma from Kansai Jr., Nakajima Kento, Kikuchi Fuma, Matsumura Hokuto and that new kid from School Kakumei, Kouchi Yuugo. Ah, this is supposed to be a surprise for them so could you please don’t break the news yet, Takahata-kun?”
He was stunned by the news. When he went back home, he thought about it thoroughly. He skipped dinner and left his homework undone. Trying to grasp the fact that B.I.Shadow was going to debut without him was not an easy matter. And he did not like the name Nakayama Yuma with B.I.Shadow at all. He knew Yuma from Kansai Jr., he liked him and he knew his singing was great but putting his full name in the group name was just absurd.
He discussed about it with his best friend and his family. They all thought he should concentrate on his studies more. His grades were good and it was not possible that they would drop if he continued to be a junior. Then, he came with the decision.
“Why?”
Kento’s voice woke Misaki from his deep thought. He looked up; his eyes met Kento’s frowning ones.
“Why must you leave?” Kento repeated his question, more firmly though his voice was shaky.
Misaki looked at him, biting his lips. “Nakaji…”
Kento looked down as he messed up his hair. “I thought you said you would stay with me forever. I thought you said you wanted to be debut with me. I thought you said you would like us to be like Yabu-kun and Hikaru-kun. I thought…”
“Nakaji, I said all those, I know.” Misaki cut him off. He looked as miserable as Fuma just now. “But…I have my reason. Can you understand me?”
“What reason? Tell me.” Kento demanded. “We won’t keep any secret from each other, you promised me that.”
Misaki at once regretted at making the promise. He shook his head slowly. “I can’t tell you, sorry.”
Kento wiped a tear that rolled on his cheek. “Fine. You don’t have to. I’m going home, too. Fuma’s right. Maybe this is just a mere dream.”
He stood up to pick his bag but Misaki grabbed his hand, forcing him to face the older member. He tried to fight off but Misaki was stronger. Their eyes met again, both showed disappointed in them.
“Listen to me, Nakaji...” Misaki pleaded. “Please…”
Kento looked down, avoiding Misaki’s gaze. “Unless you want to say that you have changed your mind about leaving, I won’t listen to anything.”
Misaki sighed. “I have my reasons to do so. I thought you would understand. I thought you would support my decision. I will continue to be your friend, as I promised. I never plan to cut down all ties of you all. Nakaji, I could understand if Fuma can’t accept this, but you know me too well to object as well, don’t you?”
“Did you even think of us before making this decision?” Kento questioned. “Did you think about Hokuto? Did you think about Fuma? D-Did you think about me? We all need you, I need you, Misaki!”
“I did think about you all, I think about you the most.” Misaki assured him. “I will continue to support you all. I will buy your CDs, i-if you debut. I will watch your drama, if you have one. I might go to your concert if I can. We could meet sometimes outside. Nakaji, be sensible.”
Kento glared at him. “I know I am not as level-headed as you. That’s why I need you to help me leading the group. Fuma won’t listen to me and I am not someone who can lead, after all. Hokuto needs someone like you to guide him. You are the one who supposed to do the thinking, not me, right?”
The older boy looked down. The phrase ‘Nakayama Yuma with B.I. Shadow’ repeated itself in his head. Probably Yuma would lead B.I. Shadow, after all, so Kento should not be worrying that. But of course, he could not tell him that. At least, not yet.
“It will work somehow, Nakaji. You will do well. Trust me. Listen…I promise I’ll stay the same. We can meet outside. We can call each other every day if we want. I’m not dying, for GOD’s sake!”
Kento looked down, trying to absorb everything Misaki has said. They were all true, but things were easier said than done. It was not easy to maintain their friendship if Misaki left the company. Their schedule would not match and the company would not like it as well. However Misaki had made his decision and he, Kento, knew nothing would change his mind.
“Sorry for being childish, Misaki…” he apologized. “Good luck in everything.”
Misaki finally smiled. He patted Kento’s shoulder lightly. “Thanks. All the best to you, too.”
“We will miss you, Takahata-kun.” Shintarou said, smiling. He only knew the news when Misaki announced it to say good bye to the other juniors and he, like the others, accepted it calmly. It was not an unusual thing for a junior to quit halfway so they had used to it.
Taiga and Yuta stood alongside him. “Make sure you keep in touch with us.” said Taiga. Yuta nodded in agreement. “Yeah, drop by here sometimes when you’re free.”
All the other juniors came to shake hands with Misaki and continued to their dance routine or whatever they were doing. No one seemed to share B.I. Shadow’s sadness on Misaki leaving. Fuma was no longer crying but tears were still brimming in his eyes. Hokuto looked as gloomy as yesterday and did not say anything since.
“So, good luck to you all.” Misaki said suddenly to his former members. “Do your best, okay? B.I. Shadow means Boys in Shadow but that doesn’t mean you all cannot shine.”
All three of them nodded. Fuma could not restrain his tears anymore and just let them fall. Misaki approached him first, pulling him into a hug.
“Don’t cry. You are not the youngest anymore. Be a good example to Hokuto, will you? Remember where you put your things. Write your schedule in the planner I gave you before. Don’t mess up the dressing room too much. Fuma, you know those, right?” Misaki said softly.
Fuma nodded and sniffed. They let go of each other and Misaki turned to hug Hokuto.
“I’m sorry that I have no chance to know you more. All the best, anyway. Help Nakaji and Fuma sometimes. You know neither of them is really reliable, don’t you?”
Hokuto chuckled at the joke. He nodded. “Thanks for all your helps and advice. It’s such a pleasure to work with you, though it’s not for long.”
Misaki smiled and faced his former leader. Kento was not as gloomy as Fuma but he was not smiling ether. Misaki reached to hug him.
“No matter what happen, always smile, okay? Because I like Nakaji’s smile the best.”
It was the shortest message among all but Kento knew Misaki meant it very much. He nodded, drawing a smile. “Misaki, too. Don’t forget us.”
“I won’t ever.” Misaki assured them all. “This is not a farewell, really. It’s just a start of something new.”
“Okay, group hug now!” Kento said cheerily to the members. All four of them formed a hug as Misaki remembered how the bond started.
The first time the three of them, Misaki, Kento and Fuma, worked together was when they were acting in the drama Scrap Teacher. They acted as the class baddies. At that time, they were not yet called B.I. Shadow. He had performed with Fuma but the drama was his first work with Kento. Since then, they had started to perform together in Shounen Club. Some of their earliest performances were Mayonaka no Shadow Boy and School Kakumei. They back danced for Hey!Say! JUMP in their JUMP-ing Tour and they even got their own corner. Hokuto joined them in early 2009, and the rest was history.
After they let go, Misaki fixed his sling bag and smiled at the other three. “Then, I will be going now.”
“We’ll walk you out.” Fuma said at once but Misaki shook his head.
“There’s no need to. See you all again later.”he said, raising his hand.
Kento nodded. “Sure. Take care in your way home.”
Hokuto waved his hand slightly. “Good bye. Keep in touch with us.”
“Sure.” Misaki replied the wave and started walking.
It was painful to see him walking away for them but they believed him. This was not a farewell, because they would consider Misaki as one of them forever.
Someone should know by this how I suck on writing summary. ^^ Sorry if the idea is lame. But the longer I keep this story unfinished, the worse it would be. Now I should go and do some mathematics. Have to get an A because I just realized that I haven’t got A yet for this year! O_o And I was doing very well last years! >.> Plus now I've seen both Tama-chan and Yoshino Shota, I might do better tomorrow! ^^
Comments, please, to let me know Misaki is not yet forgotten! XP
