Happy Non-Apocalypse Day!

Oy. I'm starting my New Year's musings early, and one of the things I want to do differently in 2013 is update here more often. Since I've said that before, we'll just skip to the next step.

Somewhere along, oh, late August, my life took a turn for the insane due to family medical issues and work overload. (For those who can appreciate it, we migrated the library data from a Unix server to Windows virtual server in October, and are still putting the pieces back together.) Having spent October pre-planning what I wanted to write during NaNo...November simply evaporated. (If you see it, tell it I miss it.) I didn't even try to actually write, because by the time the calendar said it was Nov. 1st, I understood that I wasn't going to have the time or energy to do anything but keep my head above water for the foreseeable future.

On the plus side, I still have all those ideas and notes.

December was largely more of the same, with very little down-time and by last week, I was making (only half-hearted) jokes about not giving in to the impulse to stab people, from my co-worker who talks incessantly about what he's doing, to people in the Bones fandom (some of whom admittedly deserve to be stabbed, or at least permanently gagged) to various family members.

This is not to say that only bad stuff has happened- not at all! Some of the things which have contributed to the overall insanity have been very good indeed, like the birth last Saturday of my newest great-niece. (My sister now has four grandkids, three of them born in the last two years. Consensus seems to be 'we're done for a while, now.' LOL.)

(It's a measure of how insane things have been, though, that The Hobbit had been out for TWO WHOLE DAYS before I saw it, and I've still only seen it once. Since I saw both TTT and ROTK three times on opening day, this is rather disconcerting. It's amazing the world didn't actually end.)

Fortunately, I'd taken this whole week as vacation, and while Monday and Tuesday were frantic, Wed-Thursday were badly needed chill days. I've done some stuff for Christmas (wrapped, baked) but mostly watched stuff on TV, read, wrote, and caught up with various other things of priority.

And now, I must make a grocery list, take a shower, and prepare to go back out into The World. I hope all is well for all of you in LJ/DW. I'm determined to re-order life a bit heading into 2013, and shall be around here more often. (Threat? Promise?)
