From the current forecast for central Indiana:
Snow will develop Monday night and then continue through Tuesday and Tuesday night. Central Indiana will generally see snowfall amounts of 5 to 9 inches with the highest amounts across northern sections of the area. Four to eight inches is predicted for central Indiana.
Translation: "Beats us. We think it's probably going to snow." (Looks out window, notes big round yellow object in sky.) "Unless it doesn't. But seriously, we're guessing four to eight inches of snow for central Indiana. Unless five to nine inches fall. But that would be for central Indiana."
It's *possible* that what they're trying to say is that the northern sections will get 5 to 9 inches, while the southern section gets 4-8.
Mostly what they're saying is, 'hey, we're meteorologists. We took lots of science classes, but skipped the how-to-communicate classes.'
