The library job application is finally in the mail. It was a headache to do for a number of reasons (namely, figuring out how to describe my skills in such a way that it doesn't sound like I'm overqualified for this job in some ways (er, nearly ten years as head of a cataloging division followed by three as a systems person when they're looking for someone to manage a circulation dept (and thus an in-depth knowledge of cataloging rules and an absolutely-not in-depth knowledge of unix aren't helpful, to say the least) or underqualified in other ways (in that it's been twenty years since I've actually quasi-managed a circ desk). Plus, the form was confusing in asking the same question in three different ways. But it's done now, and I figure unless they've found someone with very recent circ management experience, I'll have a good shot at it.
The FBI and DEA jobs were pulled before the dates. The ad originally said apps could be submitted through Monday the 24th -- but the ads disappeared last Thursday. I didn't think that was legal to do, but figure it means they filled the positions internally and I wouldn't have got the jobs anyway. Either way, now that I know where to look for those kinds of jobs, I'm going to continue keeping an eye out -- probably even if I get the library job. We'll see. I still think a government job would be interesting, but it would be more challenging -- I suspect the library job will leave me with more energy for writing.
Speaking of writing, I Wrote this past weekend. I also made a necklace and matching pair of earrings. It was a very creative weekend and felt wonderful.
This week is a bit hectic -- I'm babysitting for oldest nephew and his wife. They have three foster kids they're in the process of adopting (ages 3, 4, 6) and needed some emergency childcare for a week or two. (The state pays for them to be in daycare, but they'd not been since nephew's wife was laid off from her job last November. Nephew's wife went to back to work in July, and the kids are on a waiting list to get back into daycare, but nephew and wife needed a bit of gap coverage between when their oldest kids (including a 15 year old daughter) went back to school, and when the daycare begins. They should be hearing about daycare any day now, but either way, I told them I could only help out this week, so they've made other arrangements for next week. Beyond the possibility of job interviews, I've got a lot to do before going to Chicago in two weeks (pause to squee over the thought of seeing so many friends two weeks from now!) plus stuff I need to get done at home before I start working everyday.
But they're lovely kids. The four year old boy can be a bit mischievous, but he suffered the most in their family of origin. And the three year old is simply adorable, but cries if you look cross-eyed at her.
Then there's the sweet-natured-beagle-with-the-IQ-of-a-rock and the pony masquerading as a German shepherd, but that's a different story. Sassy is NOT impressed when I come home smelling of other dogs.
And in entertainment news, I'm getting ready to watch the end of second season of Buffy, and am still enjoying it a great deal. I'm also seeing ads for the season premiere of Bones that have me all excited, and have the new Briggs' novel to read. Wheee! Life is good.
