Why do I bother?

May 04, 2007 15:37

I'm off today, as a comp day for working last Saturday at the conference. I'd planned to potter around a bit, do some research, run some errands, relax. Catch up on email (still haven't gotten around to that.)

I ordered some DVDs and a CD from Amazon on Wednesday. They noted they'd be shipping with UPS. *uh-oh*

Given the difficulties in communicating with them you may not have tried this, but can you get them to reclassify your address as a home address? If they said "Go away, you worm" or even "I'm sorry, I don't have the power to sort this.", have you considered writing a letter to someone high up pointing out this problem?

UPS Corporate Headquarters

United States

The chairman is Michael L. Eskew.

Disgruntled customers at my company quite often address letters to the chairman, and guess what, they get sorted. Go to the top.

I'm feeling a lot more mellow now that no less than three people in the company have taken steps that resulted in me getting my package today. (See my ETA.)

As to getting the building reclasses as a residence, that apparently involves tax status, the postal system, the local council, and a bunch of other people. It could be done, but might mess up tax stuff for the park district. Generally, it's just easier to have stuff shipped to the library if it's coming by UPS. I just thought today would be okay because I'd be here. *sigh*

(Oddly enough, the US postal system, unless specifically directed to do so by the sender, will just leave things in the mailbox and not require a signature. So it's only UPS that gives me these kinds of fits -- unfortunately, UPS has become the preferred shipper of Amazon and quite a few sellers on eBay.)

Meant to say that that's good to know about letters to a chairman making a difference. I'll remember that. *gg*

Glad you finally got your package!

What about adding another line to your Amazon shipping address? They usually provide space an extra line in case someone has an apartment number. Sort of like:

Rynogeny
Caretaker's apartment
123 RFD 456
My Town, IL 00000

I might do something like that, at least for Amazon. It might have helped today, at least. Normally, there'd still be the issue of them refusing to leave things here unless there's someone to sign for them.

Sorry about the delivery woes.

I think I may need to purchase the Pathfinder soundtrack. I need the new PotC soundtrack too. I also need to clear some space on my CD shelves!
