Overall Thoughts:
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Waaay more. Dude, 100k? In 2010, I wrote one 1,000 word fic. I don't know that I've ever written 100k in one year.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Well, first, I'd never expected to actually write any Star Trek. I'd been reading fic for a few months at that point, but it might have turned out to just be a casual fandom. Except nope. There's only one fic I wrote this year that wasn't Star Trek, and that was the other surprise -- my Doctor Who story was sort of Doctor/Master, a pairing that actually doesn't interest me. But it was for Remix, and I usually end up writing things I'd never expect for Remix.
What's your own favourite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Start Infinity Again. I love that fic so much. I spent so much time on it, and it's the longest thing I've ever written, and the premise still makes me so happy. I got to fix Generations and Spock Prime got his Kirk back. ♥
What's your least favourite story of the year?
I don't really have a least favorite, but the ones I'm least happiest with are my unpublished fics. They both need a lot of intensive work before I can post them.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Yes! I wrote long, complete chaptered fics with actual plot! I've sort of done that before, in Star Wars, but the fics were either still pretty short (For Thine is the Kingdom, 15k) or were part of an unfinished trilogy and the second fic finished with a cliffhanger and I never finished the third. It's actually pretty new for me to have written a long, plotty, complete, standalone fic. Now I know that I can actually do that!
From my past year of writing, what was...
My best story of this year: Start Infinity Again. There was a lot I wanted to say with that fic, and I think I said it, and I'm proud of it still.
My most popular story of this year: Closer, I think. It's at least in my top five for number of LJ comments.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Start Infinity Again. For as much as I love this story, I was hoping it would get a better reception.
Most fun story to write: Actually, I think Justification. It's just a 600 word ficlet, but I really enjoyed writing it.
Story with the single sexiest moment: Hmmm. Maybe Encircled. That was the first sex I'd written in a long time, but I still think it turned out pretty well.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Didn't manage that this year. Of course, I'm probably going to have to work to beat the incest dubcon of 2006. :p
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Probably Like a Rolling Stone, mostly because I've never thought too much about Gaila before. She's very malleable because we know very little about her, and my remixee had some really interesting ideas that I enjoyed playing around with.
Hardest story to write: Closer, I think. It just kept growing and growing, and also I was trying to write it during law school exams. XD
Biggest Disappointment: Probably just that I meant to write more and I didn't. During the summer I'd intended to write a few of the one-shots in my head in the Start Infinity Again universe, and that didn't happen.
Biggest Surprise: Start Infinity Again, because I was not expecting something that long!
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Maybe Closer, because I think it's very characteristic of me as a writer. Really short scenes, explorations of romance, and characters who actually go about their relationship maturely because immaturity drives me crazy. :p
2012:
I have a document of timeline and notes for the universe started by Start Infinity Again, which has nine fics/ideas on it. Three of them are finished, and this year I would like to do the other six. Also, I need to actually revise the two unpublished fics, no matter how daunting it is because of how much work they need. And I want to write at least one or two completely gen fics, preferably about characters who are not Kirk or Spock, before March or so, just so I can claim Star Trek as a fandom I've written for Remix and whoever gets me has some options other than pure K/S. :p
