Fear Her/Army of Ghosts/Doomsday thoughts and picspam

Mar 23, 2008 22:45

Happy Easter! Spring is on its way. We can has warm now? I think Thailand totally spoiled me.

Yesterday I watched the last half of DW S2. (Yes, it's another DW post. Judging by the response--or lack thereof--to most of my DW posts, not many people care. I think this is why I haven't yet posted any of my DW fic here, though I really think I should do that sometime, if only for tagging. Anyway--clearly I need to make more DW friends, especially ones who won't look at me oddly when I go off on squee about Doctor/Rose.)

On that note, tonight my parents brought up the idea of visiting Twin sometime this spring, and would I like to come along? Of course I said yes. I visited her in November, and that was totally awesome. My first thought was totally normal: hey, it'll be cool to see her and her friends again, and she'll be happy 'cause she likes being visited. My second thought? I wondered if she would let me take her DW DVDs home with me. :p

ANYWAY. The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit is, I think, my favorite S2 two-parter, but I'll talk about it later. Mostly right now I'm having thoughts about Fear Her and Army of Ghosts/Doomsday. (And the Doomsday music just came on iTunes in shuffle. COINCIDENCE?)

Warning: v. long entry.

I'm sorry, did this episode have a plot? Something about people being sucked into drawings, you say? You sure it's not just the Doctor and Rose being REALLY flirty and TOTALLY ADORABLE?

Sorry, I don't believe you. :D

Doctor: Tell me how awesome I am. You know you want to.

Doctor: I have a manly hairy hand. See? See? Isn't it just so MANLY? What do you mean, I'm supposed to be asexual?
Rose: You're such a dork.

Doctor: You think a cat is more beautiful than I am? Am I seriously jealous of a cat? No, of course not! It's...just they remind me of the nuns! Are you buying this?
Rose: No.

Doctor: Every investigation is brightened up by a bit of role-playing!

Doctor: A random scribble creature attacked you and did no damage whatsoever? Oh well, any excuse for a hug!

Doctor: You want to have sex with me now.
Rose: Yeah, I rather do.

Doctor & Rose: *are awesome at tag-teaming*

Doctor: I am so comfortable with you and your foibles that I want you to spit your gum into my hand so I can use it for what I'm building.
Rose: And I don't even find this weird.

Doctor: Nothing makes me happier than getting to hold your hand.

Rose: Even though I was finding the mystery of the week while you were rambling about edible ball bearings, I was still listening.
Doctor: You are the most awesome thing that ever awesomed.

Doctor: I am so content right now.

Though this episode is pretty light-hearted--well, relatively--it still packs a few whallops.

ROSE: Thousands of years just floating through space... poor things - don't they go mad with boredom?

CHLOE: We play.

ROSE: You... play?

THE DOCTOR: Mm. While they travel, they play games. They use their ionic power to literally create make-believe worlds in which to play.

ROSE: In-flight entertainment.

THE DOCTOR: Helps keep them happy. While they're happy, they can feed off each other's love. Without it, they're lost.

How totally does that describe both Rose and the Doctor during S2, and the Doctor during S3?

THE DOCTOR: Fear. Loneliness. They're the big ones, Rose. Some of the most terrible acts ever committed have been inspired by them. We're not dealing with something that wants to conquer or destroy.

*thinks of The Runaway Bride and Family of Blood, and shivers*

I really love this episode. :D

Actually, I love these episodes too. Does this make me a masochistic shipper? :p

I so wish that AoG deleted scene had been left in. Okay, so it technically didn't add anything to the plot, but! It was so cute! They're holding hands just because, and the Doctor is the one to reach out! Clearly this deserves lots of exclamation points! Also, he's so cheerful about going to see Rose's mother, which is just--wow, how far has he come since AoL/WW3? I keep intending to write a post on how much I love the Doctor's connection with Rose's family and what it means, but not today. :p

In terms of stuff that's actually in the episode...like pretty much every D/R shipper out there, I love the "forever" scene. He's the one who asked her, and then he smiled at her reply. As much as she wants forever with him, so does he, with her, and he's willing to at least try and let go of his "wither and die" issues. This is just...really big.

*snickers* Look at the expression on her face! She's so doing it just to mess with him. :D

And he's letting himself be messed with. He's totally thinking "Jackie cooties!" right there.

His only problem with sitting in the Tyler flat and watching TV is what's actually on TV. Again, how far he's come since AoL...

Y HELLO THAR MARTHA. Oh, RTD and his habit of reusing actors...

The Ghostbusters scene is so cute. He just bursts out with "Who you gonna call?" and she's right on with "Ghostbusters!" They're so in sync.

I'm not really one for talking during movies/TV shows, but the first time I watched this, with Twin, I was seriously like, "Oh, come on, Jackie! People change! That's life!" during Jackie's speech. I can understand where she's coming from, but I'll never like it.

His horror at Jackie on the TARDIS amuses Rose. It amuses me too. :D

Torchwood's GLEE! at finding the Doctor mostly amuses me. I say mostly because part of me is all "TORCHWOOD YOU BASTARDS LEAVE HIM ALONE", but still. I am easily amused.

And on that note...the Doctor ragging on Jackie also amuses me. It's so totally revenge for that kiss. *g*

Also, when Rajesh says they've looked at the sphere with every instrument imaginable...and the Doctor looks at it with his 3-D specs. That's awesome.

Daleks! Yay, Daleks! Their voices are really damn annoying, but I love Daleks. :D

And Rose is so awesome with them. She knows just what to say to keep her and Mickey alive.

DALEK/CYBERMAN BITCHFIGHT. No matter what happens in the rest of Doomsday, I will forever love it for the Dalek/Cyberman interactions. I especially glee! at "CYBERMAN: We have five million Cybermen. How many are you? DALEK SEK: Four."

Just. Everything about that is awesome. :D:D

When Rose identifies the Doctor, the Daleks roll back a bit. Just like in Parting of the Ways, when the Doctor yells at them. Also:

DALEK SEK: The female's heartbeat has increased.
MICKEY: Yeah, tell me about it.

:D:D:D

Yay, Jake! I like Jake. I want him and Rose to be really good friends in Pete's World.

Despite everything that's going on, the Doctor's trying to matchmake. Was he planning even this early to send Rose to the AU? He has nearly always had that aspect--things could be going completely to shit around him, and all he cares about is making sure Rose is safe. This both makes me happy and makes me want to gnash my teeth. What about her choice, Doctor?

The Doctor knows Jackie's phone number by heart. Hee!

The Doctor's white flag is very cute.

At some point between School Reunion and now, either Rose remembers being Bad Wolf and killing the Emperor, or the Doctor told her about it. I want to know more about this. What exactly does she know?

Jackie and Alt!Pete's first interaction amuses me. "PETE: [...] Made me rich. JACKIE: I don't care about that. (pause) How rich? PETE: Very. JACKIE: I don't care about that. How very?"

HEE.

The Doctor grabs two magnaclamps. If he's planning to send Rose to the AU, who does he think will need the second one? Or is he just being prepared?

This scene is very cute. Except I think that's the last time he really smiles in this episode--at least, a smile that's not full of pain. WOE.

Doctor, you IDIOT! You just had to send her away! Don't you remember what happened last time you did that?

If she's willing to rip open the TARDIS and look into the Time Vortex in order to get back to you, what makes you think she'll just sit in Pete's World when she's even still wearing the button that will instantly take her back to you? IDIOT.

Of course, the sad thing is that he finally seems to believe her that he's her ultimate choice, and they get ripped apart. *wibbles*

There are two levers and two magnaclamps. If the Doctor intended to do this by himself, then why did he bring two magnaclamps, and how was he intending to handle both levers? And then, of course, Pete jumps back just in time to stop Rose from falling into the Void--and even then, rather than them getting pulled in, they stand for a few seconds while Rose has one last look at the Doctor. *facepalms*

The wall scene. Wah. They are so broken. *more wibbles*

How does the Doctor reach Rose in dreams from across the Void? Seriously, how?

He's burning up a sun just to say goodbye. Oh, Doctor. And they can't even touch! That's almost the cruelest part of that scene.

When she mentions the baby and he asks if it's hers, that is not the face and voice of a man who thinks the woman he loves is pregnant with someone else's child. It's just not. This is why I'm not sure if they were shagging prior to these episodes. Mostly I think not, but then I just remember his face and voice right here, and then I don't know.

I wonder how long it's been since Canary Wharf? Four months keeps popping up in fic, but I've been listening specifically for that, and the only thing we know is that Jackie is three months along. And I really don't want it to have been only four months, because I want Jackie and alt!Pete to really get to know each other before having the kid (each other, not just assuming they're like their alt!selves), and before Rose being able to call him Dad.

Being unable to touch is the second-cruelest thing about this scene. The first is, of course, running out of time. Both of those things are just so, so ironic. These are people who thrive on touching each other, and they can't. The Doctor is a Time Lord, and he runs out of time. Wah. It's a very good thing Rose is coming back in S4, and that that was planned, because seriously, that so-called goodbye scene had absolutely no closure, and conspiciously lacked a goodbye.

DONNA'S APPEARANCE RUINS THE MOOD. I like Donna, and I'm looking forward to her being the S4 companion, but that was NOT the right time to introduce her.

Because I can't just end this post on woe...have a picture of David Tennant's smile, because it makes everything better! :D

Now it's late and this is long and I really need to go to bed, so I'll shut up. :p
