This seems to be one of many "I am returning to LJ" posts this week. Of course, since I say that two or three times a year and rarely follow up on it, I don't know that anyone should really hold their breath.
On the other hand, I was reading a random LJ entry the other day that I thought was quite cute and lighthearted and it reminded me of the way I used to post, instead of just using it as a random rant machine once in a great while. And I thought it was something I missed and it put me in the mood to post again. Oddly enough, I don't feel as if it is a temporary mood - more like a switch was flicked on and I have a focus again. Weird, huh? Especially for something that isn't so important in the end.
Anyway, life itself is going well! I love Ray and am happy in our life together. Work is work, and always has its fair share of ups and downs (today was mostly down, but that was due to Barb, whom is a whole journal entry/backpost of her own and not really worthy of mention in generalization). Ray and I rarely have the same schedule, which sucks, but we're getting used to it and things will change soon since he is to be transferred in mid-October sometime. It's hard to tell if this will ultimately be a good thing or a bad thing since he's in such a weird place (in corporate eyes) anyway. Time will tell, as always.
I do have this fantastic poisonous bite on my right calf that is acting up enough for me to a) actually go to a clinic and then b) actually follow up with my PCP and c) keep a worried eye on it. So far the consensus is spider bite. It's a bizarre shape (even for a spider bite) and is acting a little weird and I didn't feel or see anything so it's hard to be sure exactly what it was. All I know is that last Tuesday, Ray asked me what the hell I did to my leg* and only when he pointed it out did I see the raised, puffy, light-mesquito-bite-red mark on the front of my leg. 24 hours later, it was the same size and weird shape, still raised, and bright cherry red. 24 hours after that, it was the same size and weird shape only starting to sink a bit in the middle and was turning deep bruise purple. There was no pus and no bulls-eye ring and no actual black parts, but when it started to hurt I went to a clinic anyway and the nurse gave me a steroid pack and told me to follow up with my doctor asap. So I did that this morning and got a tetanus shot, an antibiotic shot and a looooooong list of things to watch for which boiled down to: if it does anything at all that doesn't look like it's going away, don't bother calling me and go the ER right away. He followed that up with, "but it looks like the steriod and your immune system is doing the trick and you should be okay if you don't scrape it open or anything."
Gee. Thanks.
I have three feet of hair...can I even tell you how many times I think another poisonous thing is crawling on me on an hourly basis now?!?!
Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh. Stupid spider. Or thing. Or whatever.
It hasn't escaped most of my friends that this is the only thing I deserve after having my spider bite people for so many years now. :P
Other than that, I am just rereading the Sun Sword series by Michelle West to prepare for Skirmish coming out in January, which is the fourth book of a series arc that is preceding and following the Sun Sword. The third book, House Name, was a bit tricky for her since the events pretty much dovetailed exactly to those of a previous book (some scenes of which were even from the same point of view) but I can't think of a way that she could have avoided that and still managed to maintain the integrity and flow of this latest series. I have to give her credit for guts - while the occasional passage is boring since we all already know what will happen, she managed to pull it off quite well for the most part. Here's hoping Skirmish will actually start the part of the story line all of her readers are really curious about - what happens after Sun Sword?!?
*The actual conversation went something like this after we both took a nap in the middle of the day after some unspecified activities and I was mostly naked in bed reading.
Ray: What bucket of AIDS did you trip over today, anyway?
Me: ::wtf look:: What brought that on?
Ray: No, seriously, hon. What the hell did you do to your leg?
Me: I have no idea what you're talking about.
Ray: ::poke, poke:: No, really, what'd you do?
Me: ::actually looks down, freaks out:: I don't know!!!
Ray: Does it hurt?
Me: No!
Ray: Does it itch?
Me: Only cause I'm looking at it!
Ray: What is it?
Me: I don't know!
Ray: You're dying.
Me: ::itches::
