So yeah I left for a little town named Squamish last weekend on the 3rd to see my friend Ben. The drive was pretty boring since I was by myself for the 6-8 hours it took to drive from Portland to Vancouver BC. Once I got there I was totally lost, but after using some of my superpowers I found my way to Ben's Flat.
It was real nice seeing him again. He's adjusting much like I had to when I was at the UEA. I think he'll be alright, especially after he joins a few clubs.
The next day we went Squamish to meet up with the Eugene crew al la Heather, Amy, Zach, Dave etc. I didn't know a lot of them beforehand so it was interesting meeting them. They are definately a diverse group of people. And as climbers (or any outdoor interested people, besides glory hunting peak baggers) they are really supportive and really fun to get along with.
So we got to Squamish and bouldered a bit. I only managed to do Squamish Days which was rated V0. My ego hurt inside and out...But it was fun none the less watching climbers like Addison climb V4's and other random people climb even harder stuff. After bouldering concluded we went back to camp and hung out. Ben and I left late at night back to VanBC because Ben had class.
We, Ben and I, hung around BC for the next couple of days and we saw some of the sights. We managed to do the Grouse Grind which is a horrible hike that involves a 1.8 mile hike with an elevation gain of 2,800 ft. Yeah thats like a 45 degree climb. Hell it had steps! But once we got to the top the views were great of Howe Sound and Vancouver.
Now its the Wednesday the 6th and Ben and I head back to Squamish. We get there and decide to tackle the hike up the Chief (1.7km hike with 700m elevation gain). We, Heather, Ben and I, also decided to camp on top the the Chief...Whether that is legal or not, who knows. We did it anyways. The view from the top was amazing and the moonlit night made the trek worth it. Here is a link
(Click On Me I'm Pretty - Not Dial Up Friendly!)Then finally on the last day we went sport climbing at Chekamus Canyon. I managed to climb two routes (a 5.7 lead and a 5.9 top rope). I also failed on a 5.10b top rope...
To sum up the trip...Seeing Ben, meeting UO peoples and having fun in Canada--So Goood and So Awesome...
