On monday night (nearly midnight) I decided to pause my first-project scarf to start the
Tenth Doctor-inspired Pinstripe Scarf. Because I had all the supplies and was very much more enthusiastic about that project than one I was doing. So I figured I had enough experience to tackle an intimidating project like this one, despite never actually finishing anything before. I mean, really - any project that asks you to cast on 324 stitches...
KnittingHelp.com's videos were great for when I needed to look up casting on (again), changing colors, casting off (never done that before). So, here we go:
When I started it looked like I was making a giant hair scrunchy.
But each row went fairly quickly, and soon I was more than half done.
'Finished' with the knitting part, but all the ends needed to be dealt with. I weaved them in at the end, but next time I do colors I'm going to trying weaving them in as I go (like
wittylittleknitter.com says).
Finally, the scarf is really finished. Larry here is modeling it so you can see the ends and both sides (surprisingly, the cats did not really try to help all that often).
Technical details:
It measures about 7.5 ft long, and 5ish inches wide. I thought that was long enough and so only did 4 blue stripes as opposed to the 5 in the pattern.
I used size 10 needles, I think, because I couldn't find 36"/90cm length in size 9 - as it is this one's only 30" I think, and it was the longest I could find at two Joanns.
I ended up using 1.7ish skeins of brown and .4ish skeins of blue (meaning I have enough left over to make an entire second scarf and then some). The exact yarn I used was Vanna's choice Espresso and Dusty Blue.
All in all an excellent way to commemorate Ten's end. I spent most of the week making it while re-watching a number of favorite new-who episodes (well, until I ran out and started listening to Eight's audioplays). It's sad to see Ten leaving, but I think Moffat will be good for the show and I'm excited to meet the new Doctor and companion (superficially I think they're both really cute, so I hope they live up to my expectations).
