Lets recap:
Last weekend: I went to DC with Madeline and Sally to visit friends of ours that are interning at various places in the Metro area. US Airways screwed me over again. At least I wasn't the guy behind us who was going to miss a wedding becuase the flight was 4 hours behind. Oh well. The weekend was fun and relaxing, I got to see some friends from LSU, hang out with them, etc. One of the coolest things I did was see the monuments at night, now I'm not talking about 9pm, it was more like 230am and we were the only people sitting on the steps of the lincoln memeorial, pretty sweet. I also got to go to Mass at the National Shrine and got to sit in a pew, unlike the pro-life trip where I was sat on marble for 3 hours. Monday was the capitol tour, I sat behind Jo Bonner's desk and wanted to leave him a note apologizing on behalf of all of us for "borrowing" his signs 3 years ago. This past week was spent in Ft. Walton working.
So I'll recap yesterday. I'm delivering on the Sandestin route. For those of you familiar with the area, I do the Silver Sands outlet mall, the Sandestin resort, and the Sacred Heart hospital. I'm leaving the hospital, driving down a road (one lane each way) in which the speedlimit was 40mph. I'm looking for a street to turn left on, so I've slowed down to mabye 30, I come upon the street, break some, turn signal on, begin to turn the wheel and BAMN! An impatient guy on a motorcycle decided I was going to slow for him and tried to pass me on a double yellow line and not realizing that I was turning, hit me. Keep in mind, I'm in a 3.5 ton big yellow van. And he's driving a small motorbike. Needeles to say, he fell off the bike, skidded about 20 feet into a post, the bike went another 20 feet and I came about 5 feet from running over him once he hit the post. When my truck came to a stop, I immediately thouhgt he was dead becuase he wasn't wearing a helmet (not required in FL) and I couldn't tell if his head had hit the pavement. I jumped out of the truck and he picked his head up. I looked at his right leg. He had a gash from his knee to his ankle and about 5 inches wide. His bone was broken and sticking out. I, along with about 5 other guys who saw it tended to him and called 911. He was taken to the hospital down the street and is alright. I still feel bad thoguh, even thoguh I know there was nothing I could have done. The witnesses and sherrif said that he was going about 35-45 when he hit me. He pulled the big metal bumper on the front out of its brace.
I'm back in Mobile for Saturday and Sunday then to Baton Rouge on Monday for a meeting and then back to Ft. Walton for another week or so.
