"Hello, My name is XANXUS and... I'm an alcoholic,"
After XANXUS was released from his icy prison, he found that the only thing that could cool his anger was the bottle of London imported whiskey in the Varia's alcohol cupboard. As the days went on he continued to drink more and more. Eventually he was drinking two bottles of whiskey with every meal. It got so bad that the Vongola cut off their money supply to the Varia because he was spending it all on expensive imported alcohol. Then he moved onto buying cheap $10 Vodka, or anything he could afford.
The Varia had had enough. XANXUS had pawned Bel's tiara for booze money, he robbed Lussaria's new boyfriend just to steal his alcohol, he had used Mammon's money that he'd saved up to buy it, he even sold Squalo's mechanical hand to get a drop of absinthe. They couldn't stand it any more.
So they called a meeting.
"VOOOOOOOOOOOOI! What are we going to do about XANXUS' drinking problem?" Squalo started.
"Ushishishi, I say we kill him, and watch the alcohol poor out of his veins," Bel said.
"Muu, I'm with Bel on this one, I can't have him stealing any more of my money," Mammon agreed.
"VOOOOOOOOOOOI! We can't kill him! He's our boss!"
"Yeah, It'd be a shame to kill a hunk of a man like XANXUS," Lussaria replied.
"Muuu, well what do we do then?"
"Voi..." Squalo said quietly, "This could sound crazy... But how about we force him into Alcoholics Anonymous?"
The Varia gasped. How had they not thought of that before?
So they packed up XANXUS' bags (which wasn't much, because he'd sold everything) and waited until he slipped into one of his common alcohol induced slumbers, when he was like that it was impossible to wake him up for at least 2 days, it was a bit like a mini-coma. They chucked him into the Variamobile and drove him to rehab. He was going to go cold turkey whether he liked it or not.
Unfortunately, the first rehab centre couldn't control XANXUS when he found out that he wasn't allowed any alcohol. Neither could the second. Or the third. Or the fourth for that matter. Squalo had to beg and pled with Tsuna, to build a special rehab centre just for XANXUS. It was only then that XANXUS started to recover, of course this took a while (9 years to be exact). But now, XANXUS has been sober for 10 months, and frequently attends Alcoholic Anonymous meetings. Along with those meetings, he's been taking Anger Management classes, to keep his anger under control, and they've worked so well, he's changed his name from XANXUS to just Xanxus.
