i went to school right by suffolk. do not go there. you will not like it and you'll be paying back your student loans till your 50. it's not worth it. northampton is where its motherfucking at. i know i've never met you, but please, please, take this into consideration.

thanks for the tips.
atlas shrugged was a bit too extreme AND far-fetched for its own good.
the fountainhead is where it's at.

atlas shrugged is the perfect illustration of what would actually happen if all the movers of the earth just walked away. her philosophy is presented flawlessly, and updated from the fountainhead. it's a progression. we don't have to agree, i'm kind of a psycho about ayn rand so i'm biased.

granted, she is an exceedingly talented writer, but the sacred valley of genius and the entire country collapsing upon itself? a bit fantastical, which degraded her philosophy but offered entertainment. the sixty page radio monologue broke the momentum and for the most part just vocalized the actions of the characters.
in her books, there are no gray zones, no multi-tiered personalities. this creates exceedingly predictable characters who are simply a single philosophy in physical form. some of the things they do are shocking, but not unexpected once we know their patterns.

blah, this is just what i pulled from it. i do enjoy her writing immensely.

i agree with you that the radio monologue was a horrible idea, but i think that the fact that her characters have no gray area makes sense. gray area only happens when you don't know who you are or what you value, and her characters just don't have these kinds of extentensial chrisises. (bad spelling, but you know what i mean)

as long as you enjoy her writing to some degree, we are in complete agreement.
