I knew Fox News sucked.

I am normally a passive person. Heck, to flaunt a stereotype that I don't mind, I tend to be your typical self-effacing good natured and demure Canadian. However, like all good Canadians I can get outraged in certain circumstances, other than hockey and the length on line-ups at Tim Horton's.
Now see, these are jokes, and are good natured in intention. Gently poking fun at some of our sterotypically defined foibles. Don't always take stereotypes as bad, they aren't/ There are stereotypes for aa reason, and they're not all meant to be mean. They're not always accurate, but they tend to hold a glimmer of truth. Then there are things said that ARE JUST MEAN. FUCKING AWFUL.
This gets my red Canadian blood stirring.
Most of you have probably heard of this by now, but a stupid talk show on Fox News pretty much trash-talked our country into the ground and displayed a level of American ignorance I hadn't thought existed. Now, normally I have no problem with Americans. I think most are pretty decent folk like us in the North, although I admit to some issues with deep-south fundamentalists, but that has more to do with my views on Science as opposed to the Bible than about them being American. So, yeah, I have a certain level of prejudiced too, but I don't discriminate or purposely say hurtful things, I just have a small voice in the back of my head that says 'The world is more than 6000 years old, and yes, evolution really happened'.
What I heard on this Fox News though offended me more than I think anything has in at least an incredibly long time. One of these people, Doug Benson is a comedian who even has a gig in Canada on April 2nd. It's in Edmonton though. If it were Toronto or another place that was close by, this would be the first thing I think I would go and publicly protest against. I hope his show is cancelled, because a person who can say such things, especially in light of the recent deaths in Afghanistan this week, shouldn't bother coming up here. Completely unwelcome.
I'll stop ranting now, but this Livejournal is for the purpose of years from now I can look back and understand who I was as a person, what I felt. I think this event is an important record of those criteria. Who knew I'd get to record my first desire to protest in here? (Okay, I should qualify that there are other things in the world I think are protest worthy, but nothing I've ever actually considered grabbing a stick and a sign and planting myself outside a building for. If only it were Toronto....)

Oh, and for those who have no clue what I'm talking about, you can watch the whole thing right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcJn5XlbSFk

Finally, for the record, I visted the Fox News website, can't find anything even acknowledging this or apologizing. I also can't find any links for contacting them, or the show Red Eye specifically. A good way to receive no criticism on your broadcasting standards is to simply ignore the aspect of the public that disagrees with you. Kudos, Fox News. (Although I freely admit a link probably does exist on thee somewhere and I just can't find it. I LOOKED HARD though.)
