Okay, so - Up?  It can really be divided into two parts - the first fifteen minutes, which are some of the best fifteen minutes of anything ever, and the rest of the movie, which is still absolutely excellent(though the best parts are really those that call back to the opening sequence) but doesn't return to the same level of utter perfection.  The first fifteen minutes really are three scenes - one from Carl Fredrickson's childhood, then an opening montage, and then his escape in his house of balloons.  This first sixth of the movie is amazing and magical and idealistic and at the same time painfully realistic, and just one of the best things Pixar has done so far.  The rest of the movie, as I said, is amazing, but it's more of a standard adventure story done really, really, really well.

It's really when Russell shows up that the story completely changes, but that isn't a bad thing - he adds something to the movie, and I guess he detracts something as well, but for Carl Fredrickson, those changes really were necessary, because the changes Russell brought to the story helped to change him.  See, above and beyond, Carl is the protagonist here, and even though the supporting cast is completely different in terms of tone, they really exist to change and forward his story, which is really the best one could ask from this movie, as Carl is an amazing character.

So, I really, really like this movie, and I love the beginning with all my heart.  I also wouldn't change it, despite the rest not being up to the soaring standards of the introduction, because I don't think I would want this story to be any other way.
