I am going to end 2007 very comfortably. The 2007 "Raoul" Award screenings will take place tomorrow night with whomever wishes to be in attendance for awesomely awful films and good company.
And, because I just keep doing it, this end of the year wrap-up.
---
1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
I'd never been to NYC before, so that was a great experience. And the roadtrip with Zach to see Jessica in Utah was great. Just a week surrounded by friends ,seeing shows, experiencing a new state, hanging out at Wal-Mart and actually having fun... good times.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any, so I kept to them pretty well.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Actually, my cousin Jeff got himself a son this year, so I can say "yes."
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Nope. Everyone is present and accounted for.
5. What countries did you visit?
Stayed in the borders of the US. Ireland was not meant to be this year.
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A resume/portfolio.
7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The four days I was incapacitated due to sunburn. The two very cool trips I got to take... and December 29th, when Brian became the newest edition to my house's dog population.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I didn't do much, Directed a short play. That was splendid. Came very close to landing a high level theater job in San Diego. A lot of almost-achievements, really.
9. What was your biggest failure?
2007.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Still reeling from my ass-crack-ectomy well into March and then getting a sunburn so bad I couldn't leave David's bed for three days (except to puke, of course).
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Gas. In spite of contributing to global warming so much, it managed to get me to where all the good times this year seemed to be.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Is it sad that I can't think of an answer for this?
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
See answer to question #12.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Gas.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Forming a theater company and directing my first full-length play.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
"Otherland" by Blind Guardian
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? About the same.
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter slightly.
c) richer or poorer? Even poorer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Working, writing, directing.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sittin'.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Same as usual. Except David came over late Christmas Day. That was cool stuff.
21. How did you spend New Years?
Hasn't happened yet.
22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
I haven't gotten up from the last time. (my answer from last year, but I think it's a good one)
23. How many one-night stands?
you mean the HBO stand up comedy series, featuring the likes of Rita Rudner, Bob Nelson, or Jeff Garlin? I think about four. Four? Four.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Top Chef and Real Time with Bill Maher.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't really hate anybody. I don't think I'm capable.
26. What was the best book you read?
"Kafka on the Shore" by Haruki Murakami.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Electric Six's new album.
28. What did you want and get?
Books. Books! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKS!
29. What did you want and not get?
So many things.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
I honestly couldn't tell you right now. There's a three-way... maybe four-way tie for my top movie. Once I see a few more of 2007's offerings, I'll have my usual list up.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
My god, I can't believe I forgot to put this down earlier. In celebration of my turning 23, David took me to see "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" at the Old Globe, and then we had a picnic right in the middle of Balboa Park. Such a good birthday. And I got the funniest shirt known to man.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Everything going according to plan. If I had that, hen I would have gone to Ireland, directed two plays, had a job... so many things.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Jeans/shorts and a t-shirt David got me.
34. What kept you sane?
David wins this year.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Yvonne de Carlo.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I'm actually paying a little bit of attention to the presidential campaigns. It's a little bit interesting and extremely frustrating.
37. Who did you miss?
You see all those people where I am not? Yeah. Them.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Roxie and Jill from the EPA were really cool. Oh, and Grant. Those three. Did I meet anyone else? I can't remember.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
There's always 2008.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Why do we do this C.G. and I?
Every night vegetables,
Minds numbed up by THC.
I've got my pen, C.G. the remote
Laurel and Hardy's the best bet at
four A.M. On a Friday
No dreads about the working day
Funny thing about weekends
When you're unemployed
They don't quite mean so much,
except you get to hang out with
all your working friends
Well we got us a spaghetti western on 36
I like spaghetti westerns
I like the way the boots are all reverbed out
walking across the hardwood floors
In fact, everything's got
that big reverb sound
Well what'll I do now?
Go to sleep
Pull the pud
We need new pornos
Well, I guess I'm still writing...
