I've had all sorts of goals to write more. Anything really. Something to get the juices going again. Recently, my hot ginger-haired friend
teutonicboytoy began a 30-day TV Meme and I read it over and figured it was the perfect thing to do! I love TV. I watch tons of it.

There are many shows that I could wish for additional seasons. Veronica Mars, Dead Like Me, The Comeback (
teutonicboytoy's choice), and even the recently departed favourite, Ugly Betty, but all of these shows did have at least one completed season. Unfortunately, the show I have selected didn't even get that far.
Firefly was a show that had a difficult concept to sell to viewers. It was a science-fiction western. These two genres often targeted two completely different audiences. I understand what Joss Whedon was attempting to do but after initial ratings failed to impress Fox they canceled the show before it could even air the remaining completed episodes.
What made this show so completely brilliant was not only the cross-over between the two genres but also the witty dialogue, unique characters, and the secrets each character had to unravel. After the cancellation and DVD release (which included the un-aired episodes) the show cultivated a fan base that would quickly take on cult status. It grew so exponentially that three years after the show was canceled a major-motion picture entitled "Serenity" was released to theaters. It amazes me that anyone would ever fund a 39 million dollar film based off of a canceled series, but that simply displays the sheer momentum the franchise had built up. In fact, this was how I was introduced to the series. It wasn't until after Serenity did I even watch the franchise.
Recently, I was reminded of this show when a new girl came to work in my store and told me how she is going to a 'Don't Stop The Serenity' convention in Vancouver at the end of June. Her knowledge of the show was top-notch and she reminded me how great of a program Firefly really was. I think a million nerds would explode if they ever did anything else with the show but for now, it is a show that should have never been canceled.
