Hell is freezing over...

Yes readers (if I have any left that is) I am making a post in my starving livejournal. Even further from the "norm" this is not a philosophical post or rant. Nor will it be a poem, essay, or anything else that could be mistaken as school related. In fact, as my good friend Jay says, it's more of a "what I had for breakfast" post. I have found that while I have many thoughts and opinions that I like to share with people in a forum such as this, a journal perhaps is not exactly the place for them. So from now on I have decided that it's mostly going to be about the current events of my life - with perhaps a rant or poem thrown in there every now and then. I still however refuse adamantly to post any of those silly quizzes. Anywho!

The last week has been pretty well focused on three things. Our new patio, helping out a friend with his girlfriend, and being generally pissed off with the current state my body is in (please Jay, no cheap jokes...you too Kevin)

So my father had this great idea of putting in a new patio for the whole family to enjoy. He figured that since we don't have any pets or small children, a fence wasn't really essential to our house. This caused some more money to free up. What was once a relatively small and simple patio - has turned into a massive undertaking of man labour. As anyone who was put in a patio knows first you have to DIG. And not just an inch or below the grass line, but EIGHTEEN INCHES into the friggin ground. This is especially fun when six inches down you hit solid clay and when your pickaxe gets stuck in the ground because it's so god damned thick. Anyways, after more than 1500 wheelbarrow trips, and 50 cubic YARDS of dirt, moved from the back of the house, to the front, a man cam and took away dirt for 500 smackers. Who knew dirt was so lucrative? He returned and dropped off fifty tons (TONS!) of gravel, which then had to be shoveled and wheelbarrowed around to the back. When THAT was done, he came back and delivered stone DUST. This was put on TOP of the gravel which had been compacted, and then meticulously leveled using pipes and 2x4's. Well, now the stones arrive - which were SUPPOSED to arrive in the back, but of course were dropped off in the driveway. Well, THESE had to be lugged around too. The fun never stopped I tell you. So after two days of laying down the patio stones we (read: family and very good friend Kevin) still need to cut stones to fill in gaps, followed by sweeping sand into all the cracks, compacting THAT, building the steps, putting in a cedar privacy screen, and two tree transplants. In the end we will have a very lovely patio indeed, but at this point I'm already almost too bitter to enjoy it at all.

Moving along, my friend and his girlfriend have been having some problems as of late. Well, late Monday night (during RAW damnit!) I was called over to see if I could remedy the situation at all. By the end of the night, everything had been worked out - but I also knew a few things that I didn't exactly need to have floating around in the grey matter of my mind. For instance, she loves him and all, but when she was talking to her ex a few months ago, she forgot how "adorable he was", and that at the time she "wanted to get back together with him". Well isn't that nice! Here I have a really good friend of mine, who I care very much about, in a state of limbo because his girlfriend is indecisive. I had to sit there the entire night as he took shit from her, and held my tongue, even when she decided to vent her frustrations at me. Either way - everything seems to be fine...again, but I don't know how much longer my friend will put up with the shit. Everyone should just go gay and not worry about it all. Yes, that sounds like a splendid plan.

Regarding the state my body is currently in: I'm on crutches (wheeeee!) Yup, I've been hobbling around like a gimp for the last week and half (including working on that god forsaken patio). This is a result of me tearing my meniscus (read: fucking up my knee) for the second time in three years. The doctor wasn't all too helpful either. Some tidbits of wisdom that went along with the visit were "If it hurts, don't do it." "Stay off it" "Ice it" "Don't do anything that might cause the tear to become worse." WELL! I would never have known! I could be in a wheelchair had it not been for her. So I asked her the question of whether or not surgery would help more than it would hinder. She told me that the tear wasn't bad enough for surgery, which I THOUGHT was a good thing, but later found out that the surgery would just be them going in and taking out the entire meniscus, this negating me from anymore injuries of this sort. INSTEAD, I get to wait till I do a really good job of tearing it up before that happens.

Either way though, the week hasn't been ALL bad. I've been having a lot of friends who I haven't seen in a while contacting me online and on the phone. It's fun to play catch-up with everyone...though there are also some friends who I have lost touch with in the past few weeks that I wouldn't mind seeing again...even if I don't get a free lighter in the process (Don't ask)

BTW: All of Jay, MAB and Phil's talk of the D&D sessions have really got me hoping that an opening just might suddenly appear for another player, but I suppose that's wishful thinking *wink wink*.

Anyways folks - talk to you all soon.
