Update time peeps...
Thursday, July 14th - I get off work and hop in my car to head to the Twin Cities area for a wrestling filled weekend. I pick up "The Whole Reffin' Show" Rob Page and we make our way to Cannon's for some tape watching and sleep.
Friday, July 15th - We all pile into my car and make our way down to Midlothian, IL for some IWA Midsouth wrestling. This particular trip presented a bit of a challenge for me since we'd be "suiciding" it and I was the only driver no the trip due to lack of licenses being had by my trip partners. Seven hours there and 7 hours back all to be done by me but it was all good, we made it alive and that's all that matters. Unfortunately Rob and I were unable to get on the show but we still had a blast. We spent the show at the merchandise table TRYING to sell Cannon's merchandise but we had very little luck. Personally, I blame Rob. Anyhoo, it was still fun because I love the IWA atomosphere. The wrestlers are so awesome and they are a blast to talk to. Shooting the breeze with Jerry Lynn, Matt Sydal, Trik Davis, Josh Abercrombie, Marek Brave, Danny Danniels, Tyler Black and Ryan Boz is tremendous, especially Boz. He has some one-liners that had my stomach in pains and tears nearly coming down my face. Funny stuff I tell ya. After the show, we all head to a restaurant called "Omega." Funny comment was made by Eddie Kingston as I was walking into the restaurant when he said "Look! We've got Version 2 walking into a restaurant called 'Omega'! Get it?!?" Some groans were made by some in attendance but I thought it was pretty funny. Anyways, food is had and we hit the road. We bring Trik Davis to his house and thankfully we were able to catch a couple hours of sleep before we hit the road. This was very much needed on my part as I was the only driver and sleep just rules so super big thanks to Trik for his hospitality. We hit the road from Trik's around 5:30am and arrive back at Cannon's around 1:30pm.
Saturday, July 16th - Since we arrive back at Cannon's at 1:30pm, we were running late for NIW's Declaration of Impact Show at the Duk Duk Daze Festival so there was no time for a nap. Instead we just packed up our stuff and made our way to take home Rob Page. We make it to the event around 3 and get there about half way through the show. I was scheduled to face Cannon in the main event so going on barely any sleep was going to make this match all the more challenging. Also, it was rediculous hot and muggy outside so that made things a little more interesting as well. On to the match...Cannon and I have wrestled singles matches before and everytime I've come up on the short end of the stick so I had that on my mind during the match. We start out exchanging various holds when he pushes me back into the ropes and proceeds to deliver a chop instead of a clean break. I didn't take that very well since it wasn't very sportsman-like so after we ducked out of the tie-up immediately following to yell at the fans, I capitalzed and chopped him back when he turned around. Tit for tat man, what goes around comes around. Anyway, the match went on and he gained the advantage and was beating me up pretty good. Things got farely even when we both hit eachother with a clothesline and were down. As we made our way to our feet, somehow a fire was lit under my ass and I went to down with punches and a side-effect slam but only got a 2 count. So I figured I give the heart-attack clothesline a try but Cannon reversed my attempt to shoot him off the ropes, gave me a boot to the gut and hit me with an exploder suplex. He didn't go for a cover afterwards which I didn't expect so I made my way to my feet to try and fight back but I walked right into another boot to the gut and a stunner a la Stone Cold Steve Austin. He made a cover attempt but I was able to muster a kick-out at 2. I don't know what he had planned for me next but he set me up on the top rope but I fought back, pushed him to the mat and hit a top-rope legdrop for nearly a 3 count. I was stunned so I thought maybe now I could hit the heart-attack clothesline but again he reversed and this time kicked my legs out from under me as I was running towards him to set up for the glimmering warlock. Now I've seen and been hit enough times with the warlock to know that once he connects, its over so luckily I ducked and he walked right into my boom-shock-a-locka piledriver and a 1-2-3. So FINALLY I got my first win over Arik Cannon and pleased am I because of it. Afterwards I drink all the water in sight, change, say good-byes and head home. Fun, fun weekend and I can't wait for the next wrestling trip which starts in 2 days as I'm making my way out to Pennsylvania for some Chikara in which I get to wrestle in the ECW Arena. I'm uber stoked!
