So, the power supply on my computer just stopped working. Playing a game and, bang, out goes the power, though just to my computer. It won't start up at all. Nothing going. My educated guess is the power supply. Which was 2 days outside of its one-year RMA period. Nice. Real fucking nice, HEC. You douche-fucks.
Anyway, put in an order for a new one about 3 hours later. The one from my old computer isn't up to snuff, so I didn't even bother trying it. Ordered the same one, as retarded as that sounded to me, as I didn't want to have to spend a lot of time searching for another model that had comparable features.
It was pointed out that there's actually a Fry's around here, which I'd forgotten about, as I forget they're not just in California. Of course, they have a long record of shitty service, so I'm glad I went with NewEgg in case anything goes wrong. Plus, it's probably cheaper for what I get and there's a better selection.
So during all this waiting I was using my broken-ass laptop (not to be confused with my old-ass laptop, that runs on a low-grade Athlon XP) and spending a lot of time on the couch, watching TV.
I started toying with my last desktop computer, which still worked until the large cooling fan for my video card got clogged with dust and overheated. I put in the Radeon 8500 I bought in 2001 and couldn't get it to work properly, though that seemed to be an OS issue more than anything, so I tried reformatting and, lo and behold, Old Computer rides again. Except it won't recognize the existence of my SATA driver. The motherboard was always weird with SATA and now something's not working right there, so I've got a 120 Gb drive that it just won't read. Oh, well. If I'm not using it much and don't even have a useful video card, I guess the 80 Gb ATA-133 drive I've got will work. Kills any plans to turn this thing into a media center box, though, unless I can magically get the damned SATA working. But it's all done with two different RAID chipsets, I don't know why. Ask VIA. They're the stupid fuckers that did it.
So, I'm back online now in a more normal capacity, or at least it feels like it because I can watch TV while sitting at my desk and type while on my large-ass monitor.
And Friday I get my power suppy and find out if all signs pointing to that was correct. (The only other thing I can think of is that something in my motherboard died that would prevent powering up, but that seems unlikely.) So, I guess the power supply is my birthday present to Cheria. Exciting days.
At least with my away-from-computer downtime, I watched a couple of things OnDemand, including Behind The Mask which was enjoyable, particularly for a near-student-film. Good stuff, Portland kids.
Now back to coughing, watching movies, and using this old piece of shit keyboard from the Win98 days (Memorex MX2500 for the lose).
Note on how shitty this keyboard truly is: under the Insert/Home/Page Up row and Delete/End/Page Down row is a third row, where my fucking Delete key should be; it is a Windows key, a file menu key (basically the same as right-clicking on something), and YET ANOTHER FUCKING WINDOWS KEY. WHAT THE FUCK, MEMOREX? Does my keyboard really need FOUR WINDOWS KEYS? Two, located conveniently next to my thumbs were not enough. No, Memorex said "Why not put a couple more over above the arrow keys? There's a lot of empty space there and we'd hate for anyone to actually be able to hit the Delete key when they want to delete something."
bad,
fucking bullshit,
crap,
gear,
